Project 365 – The Final Frontier

by Cate on December 31, 2010

So I started Project 365 on January 1, 2010.  A picture every day, depicting something in our life.  I didn’t count any of the photographs that were included in the nearly-daily posts during the year.  I wanted them separate, as a bit of an additional challenge.  I also put all the weekend photos in one Sunday night blast, and didn’t count any of those as my daily photo requirement.

All that to say … that even after the 14 pictures that I’m sharing from today, I am now at #353.  But in theory only.  Because if I went back and counted the weekend photos, I would well have exceeded the challenge.  So that’s going to have to do.

Here we are, the last day of 2010.  This year has certainly been an interesting one, filled with highs and lows, challenges and surprises, happy moments and sadness.  Goals met.  Goals not met.  But we made it.  And with all my blessings, truly I cannot complain.  Although I have been known to say I think I’ve had enough challenges this year thankyouverymuch, and perhaps maybe it could be someone else’s turn next year…?

I have parted ways with some friends, and rekindled relationships with old and dear ones.  I have re-evaluated.  Taken stock.  Cleaned house in every sense of the word and lived to tell about it.  We’re on the threshold of 2011 and I’m insanely curious to see what it holds in store for me.  For you.  For all of us.  A lot can happen in a day.  A week.  A year!  There is magic ahead.  Love.  Life.  It’s a clean slate for all, to start fresh, start over or just continue where you left off.  The choice is yours… and it begins … NOW. Welcome 2011!

Fun at CostcoIt takes longer to pry the kids away from the 3-D tv display at Costco than it does to just pick up the photos I ordered.

Going ShortBoth kids got seriously shorn today, with one ending up in tears. I love a hairdresser that makes house calls. Best discovery ever.

LunchA quick bite to eat with the kids. Well, me. Because my kids wouldn’t eat their lunch. Shocking.

New AdditionThank you, FireMom, for reminding me of the wonder that is eBay. This little one arrived today – love it. But Hallmark, can we have a word? When you want to charge $9.95 for an ornament, would it seriously kill the budget to attach A LITTLE PIECE OF STRING OR RIBBON TO IT for hanging purposes? I mean, c’mon!

So Long Christmas TreeChristmas 2010. Over and out.

Yum-OJamie got me hooked on pomegranate seeds as a slightly sweet snack over the summer. Clean eaters (Patsy, I’m looking at you!), this is perfect for a mid-afternoon munch.

Peach CravingI don’t like peaches. Or apricots. Sometimes I don’t know what comes over me when shopping. But I bought. And ate. Funny what the body suddenly wants when it recognizes how well you’re treating it. Body, you’re welcome.

Sweet TreatBeing part-Italian and having lived in Italy for a little while, you don’t think I could pass up something called Sicilian Sunburn, do you? Oh. You do? Well you would be wrong. Especially when it comes from a little mom-and-pop baker that is local and growing.

Snack AttackRoasted and salted pumpkin seeds. Another awesome clean eating snack to fuel you.

Ice Cream OrnamentHello, $1.12 ornament from the clearance section of The Christmas Tree Shop.

Kitchen ViewHanging in my kitchen. The promise of warm weather. Only 80-some days to go. I think I can. I think I can…

Best Salad EverWhen I was pregnant with Nick, I lived on Wendy’s Mandarin Chicken Salad. And still did up until a few months ago when some brainiac on the Wendy’s Powers That Be Board decided to do away with all their salads and start over. At first I bemoaned the fact that they had discontinued my favorite salad. Until the day I discovered this Asian Chicken Salad from a local bakery. OMG, to die for. Blows Wendy’s and their corporate folks to bits. Mixed greens, sliced almonds, chow mein noodles, mandarin oranges, cherry tomatoes, red onions, grilled chicken and a kick-ass dressing. A dressing I’m going to convince them to sell me so I can just make the salad at home. Seriously to-die-for.

All DressedReally… ain’t she a beaut?

Ree is EverywhereThat darn Ree seems like she’s everywhere! I had a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble (thanks, Mom!) and treated myself to this $15 (ouch!) magazine.

LOL. Glad you got one!

That said, they’re probably not attaching string/ribbon for the anal people like me who don’t like them. I remove them all and hang with hooks so small you can’t see them and I bend them around branches so that I can “hang” them in the exact place I want. Yes, yes I am that anal!

By the way, the apple pecan chicken salad at Wendy’s is really fantastic. That’s what I grab when I’m out shooting in the evening and have to miss dinner at home. The half size salads are freaking perfect. But, yes, that salad looks great. (Especially as I used to love Wendy’s version.)

Happy New Year!

I’m glad you got one…I looked at our Hallmark stores here but didn’t find one. I’ve contemplated buying last years on e-bay but can’t decide if I really want it.

Pomagranite seeds are the BEST! I have 3 waiting to be seeded in my fruit drawer. Guess I should get on that!

Woohoo Happy New Year Cate! It’s been so fun following along as you did your 365 and accomplished so much this year! So happy for you.

I’m so glad you found that Christmas ornament! And that you discovered and even BETTER salad! I love Asian salads. I think I’ll try to recreate this from your description of it.

Oh yum to all your food! You must share where Sicilian Sunburn comes from and the salad (which I am now craving!)

Happy New Year!
