New Favorite Shoes and New Launch

New Favorite Shoes - Profile
The first time I saw these shoes, I oohed and ahhed, and walked away.  After all, they were $56.00.  Totally not in the single mom budget.  And wouldn’t get enough wear to rationalize the purchase.

Even if I specialize in rationalizing.

Then when Beth and I went down the shore in August, I spied them again.  She walked away from me.  They were $35.00 then.  And much harder for me to walk away from.  She thought they were sparkly and I was crazy.

But I walked away too.

A few weeks ago, Mystic and I were down the shore.  And I spied the shoes again.

He was off buying something super important socks, and came to find me.  He looked at the shoes on my feet.

“For you?” he asked.

Yes, do you like them?

“They’re colorful,” he said.  He is many things, and apparently diplomatic is one of them.

They were $21.00.

$21.00!!  I couldn’t do it.  I couldn’t walk away.

So now they’re in the bottom of my closet, amongst my assortment of sneakers, wedges, and flats.

I realize that given I got a nice, fat sprained ankle walking down my own front steps in sneakers (sneakers!) back in May, they may not be the best choice for me.  But that’s ok.

We’ll have occasions to wear them.  And I will.  And we’ll make perfect occasions just to wear them.

As soon as Madeline spied the shoe box, she opened it right up and put them on her feet.  The girl walks in heels like no other.

And since I keep finding these in her room, we’ll get lots of use out of them.

Together.

New Favorite Shoes - Side

I have been taking pictures for years. I am “the one” that always has my camera on hand, not wanting to miss a moment. And to document everything. But I’ve also morphed into being the unofficial official photographer at parties, holidays, and social functions. For the past year, I have been saying that I would love to become a professional photographer.

And I finally decided to put my lens where my mouth was.

It’s official. I have launched Olivia Photography Associates. I am beyond stoked. I am a huge believer in “do what you love and the money will follow.” It doesn’t always work. But when it does? It’s just magical. And the business name? Madeline’s middle name is Olivia. With Sweetnicks being named with Nicholas in mind, it seems only fair that the newest incarnation pay homage to her. After all, they are my favorite subjects.

PS And in case YOU need your very own pair of sparkly, glittery shoes, get thee to Kohl’s.  There’s a pair of Candie’s for you!

Cate-
I have been reading your blog for several years now. I love it. It is the perfect mix of food, fun, family and a little bit of unexpected. Madeline is about the age of my oldest son. I wish you the best in your photography business. I wish you were closer to Albany, NY as I would schedule a session in a heartbeat!

I think they’re gorgeous. If you ever want to come clubbing with me just so you have an excuse to wear them…you let me know! But if I were you I’d also just wear them to the grocery store. C’est la vie!

I am SO excited for you about Olivia Photography! Also…I love that the initials spell OPA…quite fitting given just how excited I am!
