My Sandwich

  1. A local deli named one of their Friday Specials after me a few weeks ago.  How cool is that?  And yes, I totally ordered it.  It was roast beef, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, horseradish mayo on a hard roll.  When I ordered it, I asked for it toasted.  Not what I would have chosen on my own for a sandwich named after me, but was totally stoked nonetheless.
  2. Whenever we drive across a bridge, I open the car windows.  It stems from a 20/20 broadcast I saw years ago.  If something happens, and your car goes over, you won’t be able to open your windows and get out with the electrical system shorting out and all that.  Hence, the open windows.  Of course, the car sinks faster because it fills up with water, so you need to move fast.  Jamie laughed at me the first time she saw me do it.  Now she does it too.  And yes, I have one of those tools in my drivers’ side door that will break the glass if need be too.  What can I say?  I’m well equipped.
  3. I am wondering how I managed to acquire a cookbook that has recipes for turtle.  And squirrel.  I kid you not.  This one.  Totally heading for the garage sale box.
  4. I am currently mildly obsessed with the band NeedToBreathe.  Our favorite song is Something Beautiful and the kids and I watch this video regularly.  The group is on tour, but only getting as close as Virginia so far.  If it wasn’t on a Monday…
  5. I drink Diet Coke every day.  It’s my caffeine fix of choice.
  6. Hell’s Kitchen started tonight.  And The Next Food Network Star premieres this weekend.  Love them both, but wish they wouldn’t run them during the same time, because I always have a hard time keeping all the peeps straight.
  7. I know.  If that’s my biggest worry (and it’s not, I assure you), then I have nothing to complain about.
  8. I am sometimes terrible about returning phone calls, but am all over e-mail.
  9. Summer fever has hit the O’Malley household full force with popsicles, flip-flops and pool time taking center stage.  Even though there are still three weeks of school left.  That concept is a bit harder to grasp for my little people.
  10. Nick is currently (and by currently, I mean for the past few months) obsessed with knock-knock jokes.  Today he asked me what I find funny, because apparently I’m not laughing at the jokes.  It might have something to do with the fact that I’ve heard them, um, some hundred times each by now.  Or that after a few months of said heavy knock-knock joke rotation, I might have lost my sense of humor.  I promised to try and laugh more.  Generally speaking, this should be a good daily goal to have.

Crazy Kids

After two perfectly posed pictures, this is what I get. Tonight we celebrated Jamie’s recent graduation with her masters in education. She had never been to The Melting Pot before; for that matter, neither had the kids. My plan was to have a babysitter for Madeline, but after the second one wasn’t able to watch her, I took a deep breath and she came with us. I was more than a little apprehensive of taking her to a more grown-up restaurant, particularly one with a hot plate right in the center of our table, accompanied by hot ingredients and long pointy forks, but I’ve got to hand it to her. We all left with our eyeballs intact and burn-free. ‘Twas a good night all ’round.  And mmm, fondue.

You are basically famous now that you have a sandwich named after you. I mean, that’s how I measure fame. Now you just need to get someone to make it on a Food Network show and you’re all set. I actually know someone who’s going to be on this season of hte Next Food Network Star. I’ll talk to her.

I’ve always wanted to go to the melting pot! Sounds delicious.

I feel like I should be asking for your autograph now that you have your own sandwich named after you. How cool is that? I agree with your kids, summer is in full force and being outside should be a priority.

Great pic of Jamie and the kids. Glad that the Melting Pot was successful!

I came for a smile and a laugh and got both! Great post! I’ll never cross a bridge the same way again. Oh, and I have to cross the Driscoll Bridge everyday on my way to work… I love the sandwich!

Jen – aww, you’re too kind. Glad I could deliver. ;)

Stacy – they must have liked the “toasted” addition, because there was a very similar special this week with the bread toasted and melty cheese. Mmmm…

Ramona – I’m with you, I totally mess up punch lines.

Mandy – thanks. It totally depicts their silly personalities.

Joanne – how fun that you know someone on the new season! I think that one is a little, um, more manageable that Ramsey’s, but still way out of my league.
