Valentine’s Day 2012

by Cate on February 14, 2012

I cannot properly express how much I love Valentine’s Day.  I think it might be my favorite holiday.  Even though I probably say that about every holiday, I feel like this one might be it.  Growing up, my parents made a big deal about Valentine’s Day, and I love them for it.  Because that’s likely how it all began.  I love making it fun for the kids, from the moment I wake them up until the second their head hits the pillow at the end of the day.  I love them every day.  And I am loved every day.  But Valentine’s Day?  It’s just that extra special day to put it all over the top.  The day when people are happier.  Celebrating love.  My friend, Patrizia, texted me last night, “I think I went overboard for Valentine’s Day.”  I assured her that there was no such thing.

Sous Chef

My littlest sous chef.  We started Valentine’s Day prep last night, as three of the kids went to work making Cherry Shortbread Hearts.  Yum.

Masterpiece

As I was rattling off the list of desserts that I was planning on making for tonight’s Valentine’s Day dinner party, I mentioned I might make a heart-shaped cake.  Then my mom said that she used to make one every year for me and my sister when we were kids.  So it was pretty much a given that I had to do the same for my own kids.

Kids Table

Six kids.  Six adults.  Penne with tomato sauce.  Heart-shaped ravioli and a ridiculous amount of awesome desserts.

I missed pictures of Mystic’s flowers and the kids’ stash from school.   I love seeing all their little Valentine’s from their friends.  But it’s late, and I’m tired, and done for the day.  I woke up this morning, ridiculously excited to start our day, and it was another Valentine’s Day that did not disappoint.  This weekend, we’re doing it one last time as we have a Bloggers Valentine’s Day Feast.  Cannot wait.

Will be back Thursday.

xoxo

Everything looks fabulous! I think if my mom had made such a big (awesome) deal out of V-Day, I would like it more now. So excited for our bloggers’ V-Day!

That’s some pretty nifty jello — would be absolutely perfect for a certain Saturday night dinner party.

What a fun day. Like you did, your kids will certainly remember how special you made Valentines Day.

Great cards. I can’t recall (its been tooooo long), typically do all kids in school give cards, and perhaps candy to all their classmates?

I love how you make holidays and just the plain ol’ regular day special for your kids. You show they are loved thru small and big actions.
