… but not tonight since he worked late. Nicholas had a babysitter tonight, so while I ran a few quick errands, I popped into IHOP for my favorite meal there … the Stuffed French Toast Combo. Mmmmm. I’m going to have to start playing around with ingredients to come up with my own homemade version.
Those who have young kids know that there is a fine line when they’re being quiet. They can be playing quietly and behaving themselves, and if you check on them, you’re liable to disturb the tranquility. And then there’s the other kind of quiet, the uh-oh kind. Nicholas was playing quietly this afternoon while waiting for the babysitter. I left him undisturbed for about 10 minutes and then went to check on him. I found him sitting on the floor with a carton on Breyer’s Peanut Butter Tracks ice cream open next to him. He had two ice cream scoops and was alternating between feeding himself and Eli. And then the sprinkles. Oh, the sprinkles …. all over the place, in the wooden floor boards, in his shoes, in the carpet, in Eli’s fur… sprinkles everywhere … sigh. Needless to say, he was on a bit of a sugar high when the babysitter arrived. Good thing I got to escape for a bit!
The times they are a’changing. These days, everything is bigger, but is that really better? Supersized this and economy sized that, what is it doing to everyone’s waistlines? You can read a piece I just did for Paper Palate here. In the meantime, what’s your take on it? Is your kitchen bigger than your parents? Do you and your family spend more time in it than you remember spending in your parents’ kitchen growing up? And how about meals … is the spread that you put out for dinner bigger than what your Mom did? Or your grandmother? What’s your take on the whole thing?
Until tomorrow… tune in for the next nod for New (to Me) Blogger on the Block Thursday and what gets made from Rediscovering My Library.
A year ago today… ironically last year’s post title was quite fitting.
I hope you got a picture of him feeding Eli that ice cream…how cute.
I have a picture of the aftermath I’ll load tomorrow … sigh … do you know how ward it is to vacuum thousands of sprinkles off the floor? :)
Bigger? Yup… We are just back from a Washington DC vacation where I learned 2 things. 1. Julia’s Childs kitchen was really tiny and she had almost no counter space.By today’s standards it would be ripped out in a second. (Smithsonian)
2. The White House visitors center had a display of china dinner plates from many of the former presidents. Dinner plates of the 1800’s looked like our salad plate of today. Recent presidents had huge dinner plates. The difference in size was very obvious over the years.
lol what a picture that paints, kids can be so entertaining :)
Merley – thanks for the cool info! We’re doing an addition and it’s going to give me an extra 8 feet in the kitchen (not the intention of the addition, just an unavoidable bonus). I’ve actually really been rethinking what to do with that extra space. Originally I was thinking to use it as an eat-in area, but now I’m thinking no…
Catesa – he’s a character, alright. ;)
