My sister says that I’m the victim of advertising, a PR’s person’s dream. I can’t help it … flashy colors, catchy jingles and I am so there. But after all, that is the objective of good marketing. The other day, when I was in the car, I heard a commercial for McDonalds’ Snack Wrap, and wouldn’t you know it, I’m instantly craving one. Luckily it was lunch time.
The Barefoot Contessa will mention that the ONLY pasta she buys is … and, of course, the exact name escapes me now, but it’s the blue and yellow box. No sooner does she utter the words is it added to my shopping list.
I’ll buy a cooking magazine or cookbook just on the cover picture alone. That’s how the Grilled Cheese cookbook ended up in my library. Oprah mentions Margaux Sky and suddenly her first book
is winging its way to me from Amazon.
A few years ago, a coworker mentioned this amazing meal his son made for him and his wife, featuring some sangria jelly-type mold as a show-stopping dessert, using individual molded tins. A quick search on Ebay and a few dozen of them ended up on my doorstep shortly thereafter.
Jamie Oliver can come out with a new cookbook, and it doesn’t matter the topic, I’ll buy it because it’s his, and the simple fact that I know I can’t go wrong with one of his recipes. The same goes for Nigella Lawson, Barefoot Contessa and a few notable others.
So now it’s your turn … what gets you going? What inspires you? What draws you in? What does it for you?
A year ago today … bittersweet.
I LOVE that grilled cheese book. It’s a winner!
the pasta is “de cecco” – think that’s the correct spelling…
I just want you to know that your soon to be had grilled cheese book will now have to be ordered for my library … :-)
That is a book that would catch my eye also. I can’t wait to hear the recipe’s and try them. The neighbor husband
Jennifer – you definitely can’t go wrong with any of her recipes.
My Sister – yes! That’s it. :)
Alisha – see that? The cover picture is too hard to pass up; unfortunately I packed my copy up for the move, so you’ll have to keep us updated on what you make until mine gets unpacked.
The Neighbor Husband – mmm, melty cheese and crispy bacon, how can we go wrong?
