Taming the Paper Tiger … NOT!

by Cate on November 7, 2006

My recipe files overfloweth, as do my stacks of clippings, my “to try” pile and magazines to read. I could make 10 new recipes every day from now until the day I die, and still not get through them all. And if that isn’t enough, I found another great source for new recipes today. I knew FoodTV Network had a Canadian site, filled with all the shows they air in Canada (and if you didn’t know that already, check it out … they have lots of stuff that the US FoodTV Network doesn’t have). Well, today I discovered that there is a whole ‘nother FoodTV Network website for New Zealand, introducing us to even MORE new shows (I wish we had the Coconut Coast one here), chefs and recipes. There’s definitely no hope I’ll catch up with my to try pile now, but it sure is fun trying! And now YOUR “to try” piles can overflow too. Until tomorrow…

A year ago today … doing it Cuban-style.

I definitely don’t have that many to tries. I’m just chicken to try them out on other people. I’m game, but I’m not sure if they are and I like it when people like what I make, even if they are guinnea pigs! So, I end up putting more in the to try pile than I make.

My “to try file” is so full, I don’t even know where to start. There are things we made in school, I want to try at home. Then there are recipes I read about at the CLBB, I want to try so bad and then there are my Blogger Friends with all their wonderful recipes. Maybe I should adopt 20 hungry guys and just start cooking ;)

I have the same problem. I have no solution to my ever-growing to-do list. Unless maybe I quit my job and spend all of my waking moments cooking (doesn’t sound bad to me).

I’m in the TV-related business, and two companies ago I worked on a project for a Canadian satellite company. I had a feed at my desk, and I had it tuned to Food TV Canada all the time. I think it’s so much better than US Food TV.

Hi Cate,

I was hoping you could point me to the recipe you posted some time ago about the ‘best chicken salad in the world’ discovered by Oprah? I looked in the recipe archives and can’t locate it. Thanks in advance!!

Does it help to know you’re not alone in your obsession with recipes?

My biggest obsession was about 14 years ago with the rec.food.cooking newsgroup – I have probably 10,000 recipes I downloaded and made into about 15 categorized Word documents. How many of those have I made? Um, probably 30 or 40.

I think I need to just stop everything and cook.

Claire – so many recipes, so little time. ;0)

Dani – It’s tough. I try about 30 new recipes a month, which I think is a lot, but there’s no way I’m ever going to catch up, and that’s absolutely A-OK.

Sheri – How cool is that? I don’t know if I’d get any work done! ;) I wish they’d do some cross-broadcasting – would be a great way to introduce us to Canadian chefs, and vice versa.
