Or more to the point … Nicholas can read! There are a lot of times that, as a parent, you just smile and think, “This is what it’s all about.” Such was the case last night with Nicholas.
I was getting Madeline ready for bed, and The Husband was reading Nicholas a bedtime story, #9 on our 100 Book Challenge. Nicholas came running into the room, waving a book, and said he wanted to read Madeline a story. He opened the book and began to read. Page after page. All by himself. He was so incredibly proud of himself, just as we were of him.
It’s such a huge moment when all the words suddenly click and you can read sentences. As he read each page, he paused and held the book up, just as a teacher would when reading to a class, so Madeline could look at the pictures. Of course the only thing she wanted to do was eat the pages, but no matter. It was a great moment for him. For all of us.
Thanks, by the way, for the great book suggestions you’ve been leaving us over here. We ordered a few of them from Amazon the other day and they’re on the way. Keep the suggestions coming … we have 91 more books to go!
P.S. At the end of Nicholas’ storytime, he pointed to two of the words (‘one’ and ‘likes’) and told me that they’re “high-frequency words.” Cracked me up.
A year ago today… my sister’s baby shower.
Two years ago today… celebrating a year of Weekend Dog Blogging.
Three years ago today… pure randomness and a lame post title. I was a semi-new blogger, go easy.
