Could it be that Thanksgiving was four whole days ago? It certainly doesn’t seem like that long, but it sure was nice to get a much needed break. Now for the important stuff … the menu.
This year, we celebrated the holiday at my parents house and divvied up the responsibilities. My mom did the turkey, gravy and desserts and my sister did the appetizers. I did everything in between, although I did sneak a little bit of extra stuff in for good measure.
In no particular order…
Cranberry Conserve: It wouldn’t be Thanksgiving for me without this appearing on the table. Love the stuff.
Peanut Butter Fudge: I know, what the heck does this have to do with Thanksgiving? Absolutely nothing, but it’s my favorite fudge recipe and I know my sister likes it just as much so if I know we’re getting together, I try and make it to share.
Baked Oyster Dressing: A tried-and-true, this should have gone off without a hitch. Note the use of the word should. It calls for Emeril’s Essence and I grabbed what I thought was it, and it wasn’t. Whatever it was packed quite a heatful punch and although I tried to save the stuffing, I failed. I was really disappointed, and it only serves to remind me that I need to move up the “redo the spice drawer” task a bit higher on the list … once I find a good source for empty plastic spice bottles.
Cranberry Broccoli Salad: Another favorite Thanksgiving recipe of ours, Nicholas used to eat this. Now he doesn’t. Pity that.
Spinach Cheese Squares: Another one of my favorite tried-and-true appetizer recipes that I inherited from my mom. Love them.
Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes: Really. Can you go wrong with mashed potatoes?
Deviled Eggs: Now if only I didn’t forget to bring these to the Thanksgiving table!
Pumpkin Bread: This one wasn’t for the Thanksgiving table, but I made it Thanksgiving Eve. Note to self: One should not read food blogs while cooking.
Macaroni & Cheese: Another one I found on a food site, I thought it would be good and easy for the kids, in case they didn’t want the turkey. It was simple to make and they ate it, but it did not end my quest for the perfect mac and cheese.
Phew! It actually didn’t seem like I made that much food, mostly because I made a few things the night before, and then made the rest the morning of. Would love to hear what turned up on your Thanksgiving table … any new recipes that you tried? Or your favorite tried-and-true?
Cate, I saw your Tweet about our almost-identical pre-Thanksgiving prep. . . great minds think alike!!
I might be stealing one from you next year – the cranberry broccoli salad sounds so good!
This gets funnier all the time, because after you wrote about deviled eggs on Twitter I had to make them, and then I left mine home that day so mine also didn’t make it to the Thanksgiving table!

What a feast! I made a new recipe for corn muffins that turned out really well this year. I also brought some roasted butternut squash and Dulce de Leche Apple Bars… everything went over well, which is always so nice!

Wow, that’s a lot of good food. Too bad about the stuffing! I hate when mishaps like that happen.

Your meal sounds great! My family usually insists that we have the same thing every year. This year, I snuck in a new sweet potato dish that they loved.

Maris – it is! It always goes fast and I love the crunch of it.
Sara – mmm, sweet potatoes. Bought a box of them last week and need recipes. Would love to see yours. :)
Sarah – you’re telling me. I was really mad at myself – dumb mistake.
Kalyn – that is too funny! I even had a list on the fridge of what I was making so I wouldn’t forget to bring anything. Fat chance.
Patsy – the Dulce de Leche Apple Bars sound delicious – share the recipe?
