Christmas List 2008

Nick's Christmas List 2008When the holiday catalogs start coming in, we gather them in a pile and pick an evening to sit down and start going through them so Nicholas can decide what he’d like for Christmas.  I love watching him do it.  He doesn’t go blazing through page after page circling everything he can.  He goes slowly, one section at a time, and thoughtfully looks at each and every item, circling just a few here and there.  He’s the same way when he goes to the toy store; it takes him f-o-r-e-v-e-r to choose something.  I love that about him.  This year, he even made sure to circle a few things that he thought Madeline would like as well.

A month ago, he sat down with Danielle to write up his Christmas list for this year.  She wrote just the heading and the numbers, and he wrote out the list himself, with her spelling help.  His handwriting has changed so much in the past year, even in just the past few months.  (If you click once on the picture, it will make it bigger)  I just spent the last half hour trying to find his lists from previous years on the site here and gave up – frustrating.

I’m not sure what the “spinning tops” are about, I’ll have to ask him.  He’s been asking for a globe for ages now, so I just ordered him this one from Leap Frog, and I already have a map for his bedroom.  I love that this globe is a little more interactive and will tell you a little about the countries as you point to them.  He still loves tinkering in his play kitchen, an interest that has had a recent resurgence since Madeline loves to bang pots and pans in there and play.  And his DS?  Ever since he got it as a Big Brother present when Madeline was born, it goes nearly everywhere with him, along with his Leapster.  He loves anything having to do with art and also wants a beanbag chair and a soft blanket.  His choices are always interesting … most of them so practical, yet still with a little bit of whimsy.

Now to get cracking on finishing my shopping … how did next week get to be Christmas already?!

I love that he’s so choosey about what goes on his list… my 2 boys circled nearly everything in the catalogs… which meant we didn’t even consult them in the end!

Tyanne – you are the best! I searched a few different ways and gave up. His handwriting has changed so much! Here’s 2006 Wish List.

Patsy – too funny! The other day he paused an infomercial until I was back in the room and made sure that I wrote down the website because he wanted it for Christmas. Shh, don’t tell him I can’t find the site … some sort of slip on slider shoes to skate around the house with. Yeah, not happening, I’m sorry. :(

He’s got a pretty good list. Enjoy that while you can. My brother no longer has easy lists…they are ALL big ticket items. The list this year: 40-inch flat screen HDTV (yeah right!), I-pod, Xbox-360 games. He doesn’t even have any ideas for DVDs or CDs…things that I can get him. So annoying. Maybe I should get him some play kitchen things…don’t think he’d appreciate that like Nicholas would! :-)
