I have a little notebook that I carry with me wherever I go. A collection of random notes and lists, it includes everything from a list of songs I want to download from iTunes and movies to rent from Blockbuster to colors I want to paint in the house and goals for the New Year. Although there’s not necessarily great organization within the notebook, at least I know where to start looking when I need to recollect something.
Last year, after Christmas, I wrote down “decorate tree for the kitchen.” I wanted to have a small Christmas tree in the kitchen that was adorned with food-oriented ornaments only. As I was digging out our Christmas decorations a few weeks ago, I spied a small green tree in the basement. It was originally a small disco ball tree that we put it up for Nick, at his request, a few years ago, but our main tree has become the disco ball tree this year, so this little one was up for grabs, and perfect for what I had in mind.
I’ve found food ornaments here and there in my wanderings. One here, one there, no big collection of anything, but slowly and steadily, it has come together. And then I spied one of Martha Stewart’s ornament collections for this year, and the rest is history. The mini kitchen tools are from her, along with the soda fountain shake, the candy canes and the small balls with the ice cream sundaes pictured. I knew I loved Martha. This is just one of the many reasons why.
