This weekend brought a flurry of activity … three mile hikes, a rainy day visit to the farmers’ market, a movie night, friends over for dinner, Zumba … and would you believe I have pictures of none of it? Just one of those weekends. But I do have pictures of my Sunday afternoon activity, so I will share that.
If you happen to have a Saks near you, you’re in luck for a free way to spend a few hours. One of their well-kept secrets is that they have Master Classes available for the asking. What’s a Master Class, you ask? A private, two-hour, one-on-one make-up session with the make-up line of your choosing. How fun is that? We celebrated a belated Mother’s Day this afternoon closed off in a secluded room at Saks, receiving personal attention from the ladies of Trish McEvoy.
After snacking on a cheese platter and grapes, and giving them the low-down on our regular make-up routine, needs and time allowances (or lack thereof!), the women got to work on our faces. They went over various skin care products (Trish McEvoy’s husband is a dermatologist, so her line has that added focus) and which were the best items to use for what. They then chose colors and guided us through the application. They did one side of our face and instructed us in doing the other side, so we were learning as we went.
I definitely picked up a few new techniques in applying make-up this afternoon, and they managed to convince me to give liquid eye liner (instead of the more traditional pencil) a shot. I just always feel that liquid allows for less mistakes and with a hand that is anything but steady, pencil was always a safer bet for me. But after this afternoon, and a few tips of the trade, I’m willing to give it another go.
Of course, while the two-hour glamfest might be free, they would, of course, love it if you bought some of the make-up products that they selected for your face, but it wasn’t a hard sell. If you happen to have a Saks near you, you might want to give their Master Class a shot. They do have to be scheduled a bit in advance, but it’s a great way to gather a few girlfriends together and spend a rainy (or not) afternoon (and what fun it would be for a wedding shower or bachelorette party!).

A sneak peek at tomorrow’s recipe.
No photos of your finished face?
Missed you posting on Friday.
Kris – I know, totally should have taken a picture of the end result, but neglected to. Bummed I missed posting Friday. Came home from the gym Thursday night, got the kids in bed and passed out. Woke up in my gym clothes the next morning. Pathetic, but clearly exhausted. ;)
I agree with Kris! I want to see you all dolled up!
And those crostini are seriously tempting. you are such a tease :P
sounds fun! I love her products!
Ooh, a makeup master class sounds so fun! I’d like to think I’m pretty good at wielding a mascara wand or eyeliner pencil, but everyone could use a few extra tips. How fun!
Too bad there is not a Sak’s near here……
