Explaining to Madeline why we gave the man at the grocery store money for a flower, who he was, if the flower was real or not, if it should be kept outside or in, if she should put it in her hair, where America was, what the word veteran meant, and why the old man was at the grocery store to begin with if he was fighting in the war.
One of my co-workers said she saw this scratch-and-sniff apple pie bookmark and thought of me. She gave it to me last week, thinking I could use a little cheering up since the week largely sucked sixteen ways to Friday.
This ball was in the house less than thirty minutes on Friday afternoon, before Maxwell showed Nick what he thought of it. It’s just as well because it cut short a rant on why a teacher’s aide would give fourth graders “stress balls.” I mean, it’s cute and all, and as adults, I totally get it. But hoping that fourth graders don’t need to be working out their stress so early on in life.
