Does it still count if I celebrate National Coquil Does it still count if I celebrate National Coquilles Saint Jacques the day AFTER? I say yes. What IS Coquilles Saint Jacques? It’s a scallop gratin. I love shellfish, however my children do not, so I don’t eat it as much as I would like. My plans to make this yesterday were thwarted by the seafood shop being closed, grocery store #1 having questionable scallops and grocery store #2 only having frozen. So here we are! I used an Ina Garten recipe (you can always trust her recipes!) and it was simple to make and so freaking good. Those little crispy bread crumb bits on the top were everything good in this world. Since I currently can’t be trusted to blog the recipe 😂, you can swipe left for the exact title to Google (which I found on Food Network) and swipe left one more time for my changes. I’ve saved this on my Recipes highlight bubble on my profile here too. Tap the little flag on the bottom right of the photo to save it, but by all means, do make it! 🤤

March 2015 in Instagram

August 5, 2015 · Narrative

For some reason, March photos seemed like they were all about food. I can’t quite place my finger on why. I was doing a round of Whole30 during part of that month, so perhaps I was feeling a little more inspired. In any event, the round-up was a great reminder of some recipes I want to go back and revisit.

Let’s go.

I haven’t shared ALL of the Whole30 recipes I made during that round, but those awesome Pizza Parsnip Fries pictured above can be found right here, and they are seriously not to be missed.

June 30, 2015 · Narrative

Every time I think I’m thisclose to catching up with my monthly Instagram in Review posts, I fall behind, and here we are, looking back at February. The good news to being behind is that I can appreciate February’s snow and cold much better … in June.

February 2015 in Instagram

February is always a good month, and this one was no exception. Filled with delicious food (Whole30 to boot!), two birthdays, and Valentine’s Day, and then capped off by the most gorgeous sunset that ever was.

In February…

… Madeline turned 7.

… we enjoyed this delicious Whole30-approved chili, this Asparagus and Artichoke Crustless Quiche, this Egg and Kale Quiche, this super cheesy Mac and Cheese, and this Bleu Cheese Dressing.

… we went old school with Valentine’s Day treats for Madeline’s classmates, and bought way too many heart shaped balloons. As if.

… we made cinnamon rolls in the shape of hearts. and bought all the heart shaped donuts we could (of which I ate exactly none; insert crying emoji here).

… we hit the gym, the slopes, and build snow tunnels.

… ate all the fruit, pet all the dogs, and celebrated 7 with a woodland animal themed party.

February was good.

January 2015 in Instagram

For a month that was so bitterly cold, we certainly ended up with a surprising amount of beautiful sunset and landscape pictures in January.

Which was all sorts of awesome.

January was also a month for …

… sleepovers with cousins.

… art projects.

… a delicious recipe for Broccoli Cheddar Soup (a Panera copycat).

… my third tattoo, the story of which will come one of these days.

… new college classes.

… cupcakes, trips to the gym, and chocolate chip cookies. Because, balance.

Two Must-Have Travel Apps {and They’re Free!}

April 16, 2015 · Narrative

Whether we are traveling across six states or right in our very own neighborhood, these two free travel apps are go-tos for us.

I often say my phone is like my brain.

And I’m not exaggerating.

Because between storing my calendar, my contacts (who knows anyone’s telephone number anymore?!), and the various apps I use to make my life easier, it totally does most of my thinking for me.

Or at least makes life a little easier.

Two of my most often-used apps when we’re in the car are Waze and Google Maps.

Super user-friendly, which is important because me and technology are totally not besties.

And free, which is, of course, awesome.

I discovered Waze about a year ago and after I gave it a few test runs, I promptly ditched my old-school GPS.

First of all, it navigates like a pro.

It has gotten me to Philadelphia.

Points down the shore.

Vermont.

Baltimore.

And many places in between without issue.

Well, ok, we did get lost trying to find a hotel in Philly, but one blip in over a year, I can forgive.

Food Inspiration {Instagram}

March 18, 2015 · Narrative

Whether you are an ardent food lover or even a food blogger, inspiration can come from anywhere. Instagram is one of my favorite places for food inspiration … even more so than Pinterest, surprisingly enough.

Sometimes it’s the colors of the photo that capture my eye.

Sometimes it’s a unique plate or food prop.

Sometimes it’s the actual food itself.

Sometimes it’s a simple reminder of a dish I haven’t had in awhile.

Sometimes it’s the ushering in of a new season, and all the delicious foods that go along with it.

And sometimes … a glimpse of the right picture at the right time … will inspire me all the way into the kitchen at that exact moment.

Today I’m sharing some of my favorite food-related Instagram accounts.

Because we all need a little more food inspiration in our lives.

Untitled
I love BehindFoodCarts because I think it’s the next best thing to owning my own food cart. Although largely based in the Bay Area, there is no shortage of deliciousness being served up here. Also the authors of Food Truck Road Trip: A Cookbook, you can visit their website at Behind the Food Carts.

Untitled
I love the moody backgrounds on TwoRedBowls. And ingredients laid around just so… in a seemingly haphazard, yet very carefully orchestrated, way.

Untitled
KimberleyHasselbrink, author of Vibrant Food, celebrates the seasons in the photographs she takes, both in the food-related ones, and the ones of her surroundings.

Untitled
SpoonForkBacon never fails to post photos with colors that draw you in, but in the most natural way, with heavily relying on props. It look like you just pulled up a chair and sat down in the kitchen. Lately the focus is on eggs, in celebration of their cookbook, The Perfect Egg, that was just released earlier this month. Their web site is Spoon Fork Bacon, where you will find many original recipes to go along with the IG pictures.

Untitled
LoveandLemons has such bright, happy photos, it will have you running for your local farmer’s market, rightfully so. Recipes for her photos can be found on her site, Love and Lemons.

Why does it seem like July was so far away?

Ugh. And #notready.

So let’s linger in those warm summer months just a wee bit longer.
