You are, no doubt, familiar with Chip and Joanna Gaines, but you might not know how they became so popular or how their business exploded. This book, told by both of them, shares their journey from their dating stages to just a few years ago. It’s quite amazing how their path unfolded, with the universe seemingly guiding them every single step of the way. Every time they hit a crossroads, they received clear signs to continue to point them in the right direction. It was interesting to learn more about their story, and a great reminder that you need to trust in yourself and follow your passions, and everything really does just fall into place. Chip has his own book out too, Capital Gaines, which I added to my list after I read this one. If you’re curious about their story or just need confirmation to continue to chase your dreams, read this one. ✨ #catesbookaweek 6/52

She has settled into a new routine here (ours 😂), and now doesn’t get up until after 9 am, stays up until well past midnight, eats a very late dinner, knows that the kitchen is where the magic happens and sits for a treat after her morning backyard visit. We’ve broken her in nicely but she will be returning with her continued bad habit of suffering from #fomo, playing tag with the cats, and barking every time she hears a door open or sees someone go up the street. We did our best. 😇

Recipe: Brown Sugar Baked Peaches

July 5, 2021 · Narrative

When I heard The Peach Truck was coming to town, I immediately ordered peaches. And when my 13-year-old asked me why I ordered 25 pounds of peaches when no one in the family eats them, I was ready with an answer.

First, how cool is it that a truck comes up from Georgia with peaches for us? Way cool. So just meeting the truck (and the fun staff with cute Southern accents) is an experience all on its own. YOLO! Second, although I don’t love peaches in their natural state, I don’t mind them in recipes, which was my plan all along.

Until the 25 pounds of fresh Georgia peaches landed on my kitchen counter, my daughter had never actually HAD a peach, go figure. And since she’s gotten way better at trying things (likely because I preach about making educated decisions ALL THE TIME), she tried it but didn’t love it. She didn’t, however, mind it as much in peach crisp or the recipe I’m about to share, but won’t be requesting it any time soon. I’m okay with that.

Growing up, my mom made a number of fruit recipes with butter and sugar. I mean, how else can you easily get your kids to like butternut squash? I have a vague recollection of hollowed out apples as well (Mom, recipe?), which is how I know this recipe for Brown Sugar Baked Peaches would be a winner.

It takes just a few minutes to pull together, and after a little bit of time in the oven, you can enjoy these on their own, served with vanilla ice cream, or with a little streusel topping added.

Enjoy!

PS If you want your OWN order of peaches from The Peach Truck, you can order and have it shipped directly to you, or enter your zip code and find out when they’re going to be in your area next.

RECIPE

Ingredients:
4 fresh, ripe peaches
2 Tablespoons of butter, cut into thin slices
4 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Slice the peaches in half and put them snugly in a baking side, cut side up. In the center hole, add the butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly amongst the peach halves. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the peaches are soft and the sugar and butter is brown and bubbly. Serve with ice cream.

Storytelling…
Through photos.
Words. And recipes.
