My sister and I braved the 91+ degree heat today and headed into the city to attend the Fancy Food Show at the Javits Center.
Nearly 2000 different vendors on two expansive floors, with over 20,000 people attending, I cannot properly express how much my feet hurt right now. Definitely well worth it, but between the walk from the parking garage to the three and a half hours of non-stop walking we did while there, we definitely got our exercise, and then some. And the food? The food. Really, really good stuff, especially the cheeses … sharp Cheddar, extra sharp Cheddar, aged Cheddar, smoked gouda, Havarti, Romano, I could have feasted on cheese alone, and been very, very happy. I definitely discovered a few new favorites, Black Creek Cheddar being one of them. Cheese straws, a slew of organic juices, healthy chips (more on those in the coming weeks) and assorted snacks, chocolates, soups, olives, pickels, and more, much more. I think we really only had two bad things … olives that tasted surprisingly like a mouthful of Windex, and more surprisingly, the fact that they were from a large, well-known company … and fudge, bad fudge, so bad we ducked around the corner and promptly spit it out (our tried-and-true peanut butter one is heaps better).
We came back with several very generously stuffed bags with treats for everyone, right down to the dogs and cats. The pet treats were similar to a dried jerky, made of duck and chicken. They ate them up, but oh, the smell!
The food show will be there through Tuesday, so if you’re in the industry, you might want to make plans to stop in.

Black Creek Cheese is produced just 7 miles from my home. :-) They do make very good cheeses!

My current cheddar crush is Cabot Clothbound Cheddar. It is what I imagine heaven tastes like.
Larabars are made here in Colorado. I sent a couple to memartha in our last swap, one of them being a mole version. Her hubby stole it, didn’t read the label and got quite a surprise! Hehe! They have lots of great flavors.
I’m addicted to the pretzel chips. They sell those in most all the grocery stores here. Esp. good w/garlic & chive cream cheese. :)
Ha! My mother was in town this weekend and since she’s in the food biz, she went, instead of me, to the show! Well worth it (calorically) to have her haul and eat everything for me and return with the best of the best!
