You’ve just got to love an entire day dedicated to fondue. I mean really, can it get much better? A week with both Crepe Day and National Fondue Day? I feel giddy just thinking about it.
Once I heard today was National Fondue Day, it was the perfect excuse to celebrate. As if you need an excuse for fondue. I’m trying to decide if I like sweet or savory better, but if pressed, I think it would be a savory, cheesy one. Nice big pumpernickel dippers, some crisp vegetables, pure heaven on a spear if you ask me.
When it comes to dessert fondue, ever since I learned the simplest recipe ever from my friend, Julie, I’ve never strayed from it. Open jar of Nutella, warm it up, devour. No reason to do anything different. Sometimes I put it in a fondue pot to warm it up, sometimes I just warm it up on the stovetop or microwave. No matter. Within minutes, you’ll be enjoying creamy, milky smooth, hazelnut-studded chocolate fondue. Dippers for dessert can be rustled up from your kitchen easily… marshmallows, fresh fruit, pound cake … you name it. The Melting Pot restaurant takes marshmallow dippers one step further. They coat them in Oreo cookie crumbs. Delish, and the first thing I go for when we visit. On a recent visit, I asked how they get the cookie crumbs to stick on the marshmallows and the trick is water and a Ziploc bag. Put the marshmallows in the bag and sprinkle r-e-a-l-l-y lightly with water (too much and they’ll be mush in no time) and then add the crumbs to the bag. Shake a few times and you’re done.
It may be too late for you to celebrate National Fondue Night tonight, but don’t let that stop you … any time will do. And if there are kids in the house, it’s an entertaining way to change up dinner once in awhile. All of the sudden, eating vegetables is nearly fun. I’m not sure who ate more tonight – the kids or the grownups.

Yes, we may have missed yesterday but it is never too late for chocolate fondue! We had one with teenagers and adults on New Year’s eve and while not the typical romantic fondue you picture it was great fun. Nutella, simply brilliant. I think this is a fabulous idea for like a baby shower or something like that.

With V-Day right around the corner (14th of Feb – for those of you not in the romantic vain) chocolate fondue is the perfect solution to what to get for the significant other. That was what brought me here, researching fondue. Now the oreos on marshmallows was a twist I had not seen before. Great Idea! Thanks!
I am a sucker for any kind of chocolate especially a fondue I do not why but it is just such a peaceful filing time… We have made it an anniversary ritural to go every year for our evening out dinner…
