Weekend Photos in Review

New York State of Mind

An awesome weekend filled with good times, good friends, laughter, replenishment and ending with a dinner that was inhaled by my littles.  I know of no better way to end a weekend than everyone … all seven bodies around the table tonight … liking everything I set down in front of them.  And even better when that “everything” included undisguised spinach.  Inhaled so fast I only realized afterward that I forgot to take a picture, of a new recipe, and there was not a speck left over.  A first class problem, for sure.

New York City

Friday night was a concert in the city.  My first visit to Irving Plaza.  Free on-street parking (hello? in New York City?) and the bonus was that my car was even there sans ticket or boot when I came out after midnight.  Amazing concert (finally saw NEEDTOBREATHE) and we were so freaking close to the stage.  So close that when the lead singer tossed his water, we were wet.  It certainly doesn’t hurt that, although he’s not my normal type, he was mighty fine eye candy.

Hey I Know Her

Saturday afternoon hanging with my nieces, and Saturday night was Girls Night Out with a few friends from high school.  Italian food, lousy service, just ok pizza, but laughs and Nutella gelato make it all perfection.

Empire State Building

Sunday was the gym and major catch-up and put-the-house-back-together mode, and a little bit of work.  Ended with company for dinner and I’m hoping an early bedtime.  Hope you all had just as awesome a weekend, fulfilling from the inside out.

Chrysler Building

I have since learned that I suck at identifying the difference between the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building when they’re lit up at night. In daylight, I have no problem.  This is the Chrysler Building.

Destination

Fun venue and great decor. Only drawback? General admission and no seats. We stood for nearly five hours that night, between waiting outside, waiting inside, the opening act and the main event. Totally worth every moment.

Concert

These guys put on a great show. They have been performing together for 10 years and the two pictured here are brothers.  The group as a whole have all known each other since they were kids. They are from South Carolina and predominantly perform in the South, so I was pretty stoked when I saw they were coming East a few months ago. One of their more popular songs, “Something Beautiful,” is on an Overstock.com commercial, and has been my ringtone for awhile. Watching them perform, there is no doubt that they love what they do.  In case you haven’t had the pleasure of hearing them sing, let me be the first to introduce you to them.  This is one of our favorite clips (and songs) of theirs.  Madeline often climbs onto my lap and asks me to play it (interspersed with her new obsession with singing “I’m fly like a G6” from another song/artist, but that’s a story for another day).

Fun weekend! I love that song as well, though I have a hard time figuring out WHY it’s the song for the Overstocks dot com commercials! :-)

Claire – my only guess is that because you can buy “something beautiful” at Overstock. I guess if it gives them a little bit of recognition without selling out, it’s a good thing, although I agree, totally not the basis behind the song. :)

Super awesome! I love NEEDTOBREATHE! I’m so glad you had both a fun concert out and a fun girl’s night out. One. Awesome. Weekend.

I haven’t heard of them, but I usually only listen to Country stations.

Sounds like you had fun!

Oooh, looks like such a great time! Your photos of the city are incredible. I’d love to see New York in the fall — I’ve only ever been in summer!
