One of the things that I love about Mystic (and yes, I said it last night) is that when it comes to food, he’s down with most anything. Whether it’s the hunt for the best pizza, a first tasting of Indian food, or eating something white that I know he doesn’t like but I’m swearing that maybe, just maybe, if it’s prepared this way, he will, he just rolls with it. And so it came as no surprise when he said we had to go to Little Falls for hot dogs. I mean, who wouldn’t travel a bit for a delicious dog, right?
Big Daddy’s Dogs is on Main Street in downtown Little Falls in a very non-descript little blink-and-you-miss-it spot. Well, assuming you also missed the Sabrett umbrella outside too.
And you probably wouldn’t.
Inside it is super tiny. Like maybe six stools tiny.
When it comes to hot dogs (and our continuing hunt for the best pizza in New Jersey), I feel you have to try one reasonably plain first. Because if a food establishment can’t make it good plain, they have no business trying to disguise it either.
That being said, I am a condiment queen (just ask my friends who eat with me), so I couldn’t go completely plain. I just skipped all their fancy (and tempting) combinations.
The hot dog itself was good. Soft and hot on the inside, with a little bit of extra juice as you bite through the skin. Love that. The buns are steamed, but they weren’t steamed enough that day and were a little tougher than they should be. Mystic swears that they usually do a better job of steaming them, so we’ll forgive it.
As we left, I made a mental note of what I want when I go back. Um, Frito Pie? Definitely not clean eating, but too hard to pass up. Will just have to share with someone. Or take an extra class or two.
If you happen to be in the area, or want a fun little destination spot and a dog, do stop by. They’ll even bring a hot dog cart to your next party – how cool is that?

Twitter followers (you can follow me here) caught wind of my favorite lunch this week. Pumpkin seed ciabatta rolls with herbed turkey, cambazola, arugula, and smooshed avocado. Delish. Every last morsel of it.
