I thought I’d start to find a way to journal Nick’s school year and interview him at the end, in an effort to capture how his year was, so after work today, I sat him down for a quick Q&A. Once he stopped giggling, we were able to get started.
What was your favorite part of second grade?
Why are you asking me?
Could you just answer the question?
Hmmm, learning and having fun.
What was your least favorite part of second grade?
The bully. (He named him, but I’ll censor that part ;)) When people are mean to me.
What will you miss about your school? (Nick is going to a new school in the Fall)
My friends and the teachers.
What won’t you miss about your school?
Music class, computers.
You’re not going to miss that?
No, because I have that at home!
Why are you writing these questions?
Because I’m interviewing you.
(He starts laughing.)
Give me a list of things that you have learned in the second grade:
I learned time on the clock.
Adding and subtracting and I learned a lot from all the teachers.
I liked hot lunch sometimes and going on the field trip (to Fosterfields Historical Living Farm in Morristown).
I thought you said Fosterfields Farm was boring?
Oh sorry, never mind. It was actually fun.
I liked learning about animals in science class and how we can stay safe from thunder and lightning.
I loved my teacher. She was really fun this year. I liked how we sometimes played games in class and had fun with Math Bingo and that we got to go the fourth grade and learn with them a bunch of times.
