Conversations with My Kid

Posted by Cate under Convos with My Kid

On the way home the other day:

“Mom, did you go to elementary school?”

“Yes, honey.”

“You did?”

“Yes, just like you.”

“What is elementary school?”

“It’s what you’re in right now, Grades K through 8.”

“Ohhhh … what school are you in now?”

“I’m not in school.  Mommy’s finished with school.”

He started cracking up.

“That was a joke, Mommy, what school are you in?” he asked again, barely able to spit it out between bursts of laughter.

“I’m not in school.”

“Ha ha ha, Mommy, what school are you in now?  I’m serious.”

“You have the same sense of humor as your father.”

He started cracking up again.  “Good times, Mama, good times.”

I looked at him.  Who ARE you and what have you done with my five-year-old?

You bake Cookies with me every time you watch me and never eat a single one because you are afraid of getting fat. It’s okay, You would still be my favorite if you are fat…”
