Got a crockpot? If so, lug it out of the deep recesses of your never-used-appliance cabinet and dust it off. You’re going to want to try this recipe. Let me tell you … I will never make sausages another way again. They’re called Melt-in-Your-Mouth Sausages and the name is very appropo. So tender and flavorful, even the sauce is great. Serve this over your favorite spaghetti, or do as we did … toast some hard rolls, melt some Cheddar cheese on it (you’ll find I’m a sucker for cheese, even the fake stuff!) and stuff it with the sausages and some sauce. Make sure you put enough sauce so it runs down through your fingers while you’re eating the sandwich … the sloppier the better. Those are my favorite kinds of sandwiches. Ladle up!
Melt-in-Your-Mouth Sausages
Makes 6-8 servings
2 lbs sweet Italian sausage, cut into 5-inch lengths
48-oz jar spaghetti sauce
6 oz can tomato sauce
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 cup water
Place sausage in skillet. Cover with water. Simmer 10 minutes. Drain. Combine remaining ingredients in slow cooker. Add sausage. Cover and cook on low for 6 hours. Serve in buns or cut sausage into bite-sized pieces and serve over cooked spaghetti. Sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese.
I found your link on Clbb for these sausages….they sound great! Do you buy any particular brand of sausage? I have not found one I really love…some too gritty, chunky..some too chewy..etc.
Glad to have you. :) I used Italian Sausages. Our local Shop Rite makes them fresh in the store and they’re really good. Don’t know if all Shop Rites do that, or if you have a SR near you, but try Italian Sausages to start. Hope you enjoy the dish.
