Today was just one of those days when everything was upside down, backwards and topsy turvy. Dr. Seuss would have been proud. We had Sunday Gravy on Monday, dinner for lunch, The Neighbor who doesn’t cook cooked and the cook (me!) didn’t.
Went to my parents’ house to celebrate The Husband‘s birthday with them and my sister and brother-in-law. We had our big meal at lunch and when Mom asked for meal suggestions, I remembered Sunday Gravy. She made it awhile back and it’s a favorite in the family, particularly with the men! And with the amount of meat in it, it’s no wonder why. I think it has something like 10 lbs of meat, divided up amongst sausages, pork chops, ribs and more. It simmers away for an hour, making the meat nice and tender, delicious with the red sauce over spaghetti. I’ll dig out the cookbook and post the recipe tomorrow.
Was planning on having The Neighbors over for a casual BBQ dinner tonight, but ended up getting home from my parents a lot later than planned and got take-out instead. I felt like such a poser! Here I am, an avid cook, inviting them over for a great meal and I order pizza. And then to top it off, The Neighbor (who DOESN’T cook) brings Spinach Dip, which she made herself. Spinach Dip is one of my favorites and luckily she left it here accidentally … having myself a nice little snack while typing up this post. :)
Nicholas starts a new school tomorrow, and Bella is off to Doggy Day Care, so it should be an interesting day. I think Nicholas is a little excited about the new school, but I’m sure when I leave him there tomorrow morning, it will be another story. Hopefully he’ll get acclimated quickly and he’ll be making friends in no time. Now for Bella, we’ve never put her in Doggy Day Care, but she is a semi-recent rescue and is still real skittish and has been slow to come out of her shell. I’m hoping that perhaps hanging out with the other dogs and getting some training from the trainer while she’s there might boost her confidence a bit. Fingers crossed.
OK folks, all for tonight. Until tomorrow…
oh god, i love spinach dip. is that pumpernickel it’s in?
i hope bella does well in her doggy day care! we have a kitty that was abused as a kitten who took awhile to gain confidence and be less skittish. but a little love and training helped her and she’s much better now.
Holy cow, does that Sunday Gravy look good. Looking forward to seeing the recipe!
That looks totally divine! I miss Sunday dinners!
Violet – I love the stuff too, and with The Husband not liking it so much, I don’t make it as often as I’d like. Yup, pumpernickel.
Sara – recipe tomorrow, I promise!
Tery – it was! Now that Fall and Winter are nearly here, look for more Sunday dinners. :)
