I suppose it’s appropriate to use phrases like “bone chilling” with Halloween coming up. Although I don’t mind the sudden drop in temperature, the 5 straight days of 24-hour rain is getting a little old. Sun and a rain-free day is forecasted for Saturday and I, for one, cannot wait! Bring it on.
For those that love the “import” magazines like I do – they’re here! Last week, I picked up the latest copies of BBC Good Food, delicious., Fresh and Donna Hay. Since we’re one issue behind in when we get the magazines versus when they’re released in the UK and Australia, the Donna Hay magazine is her Winter issue, and one of the cover stories is “roasts and bakes to chase away the chills” – couldn’t be more perfect for the type of weather we’ve been having lately, so that’ll definitely be the first article I read.
Cooking Light has just released a new cookbook, their Holiday one. The cookbook’s still in the car, so I can’t give you the exact title, and believe it or not, it’s not available on CL’s website yet, or even Amazons’. Strange. I found my copy the other day at Costco. Although a lot of the recipes are ones that have been in the magazine already, it’s a great resource to have all the holiday-themed stuff in one place. There’s also great gift-giving and entertaining tips throughout, including gorgeous pictures. You might want to check it out. I can’t wait for the holiday season to begin!
No dinner report tonight. My parents came over and we got Chinese take-out, or dinner from the “Chicken and Rice man,” as Nicholas calls it. Nicholas can now count to 9 in Spanish, completely on his own, which I just learned this morning. This comes strictly from watching Dora. As I’ve said before, Dora Rocks! He can also count up to 35 in English on his own as well, and his teacher said they’d be up to 100 by the end of December. Not too shabby.
Was excited to get the new Verizon DSL modem today, considering they only shipped it yesterday, and thought I’d have the home computers back up and running in no time … until I opened up the box. Would help if they included the CD, no? Duh!
Not sure what’s on tap for this weekend, but think The Husband might be going down the shore. The way the coming weekends are planned, this is the last time he could get down there between now and December, so he might take advantage of it. What I DO know is that today being the 13th means there is exactly ONE MONTH until we are in sunny Bermuda and I CANNOT WAIT. We have not had a real vacation since our honeymoon, and since that was nearly 8 years ago, I think we’re due.
Got some baking and soup making planned for the weekend, and who knows what else. Also got a new digital camera to play with, which will be great for Weekend Dog Blogging. Yup, Weekend Dog Blogging #5 is upon us, so send me your dog pics for the Sunday night round-up. I did hear a rumor of an underground movement for a new weekend blogging event, this time for herbs, so if it comes to fruition, I’ll pass on the info for that as well.
Until tomorrow…
If it does not rain in Salt Lake City, I will be doing oregano or rosemary this weekend for sure. (Giggle.)
My students are now posting pictures of their dogs and cats on our class blog. I honestly cannot remember if I mentioned that people do that on their food blogs, or if the kids just spontaneously started doing it.
Bermuda! Sounds fantastic :) What a great thing to be looking forward too!
I’m with you – can’t wait for the holiday fun to start!
Bermuda? Wow that sounds like fun! I’ve never been but it sounds so exciting!
I’ll have to check to see if our B&N has the new magazines!
Just the weekend, Alex and I were sitting on the couch, watching Dora, and he counted to seven in Spanish! No help from me…
I may detest the show, but he is learning from it.
Darn it.
Wow, Bermuda, I’m so jealous! Sounds fantastic. Was that where you happened to honeymoon? My parents honeymooned there, at the Southampton Princess or something like that I believe?
Is this rain ever going to stop? AAH!
Kalyn – if you do the herb round-up, send me the link and I’ll post it. Likewise, happy to add your class blog with the dogs as well.
Jeff – bring it on!
Joe – last time we went was about 10 years ago. I think Nicholas will have a blast.
Stephanie – no hating Dora! It’s definitely educational for them. Only thing I hate is that there’s a few shows that are his favorite that he sees over and over (“My mommy’s having a baby!”), but he’s definitely a lot more helpful when it’s on. For example, if he gets dressed himself in the morning, I’ll let him watch Dora. Same thing at night, if he gets himself ready for bed on his own, he can watch Dora. That’s the only TV he’s watched in 3 years, so we’re doing good. The other night, when he went to the diner with The Husband, he told the waiter to bring his dinner “rapido!”
Mona – no, we actually took a road trip to Disneyworld for our honeymoon. :) Rain finally stops tomorrow — YAY!!
