And another day that the weatherman was wrong. No rain today! Looking at the weather forecast this past Saturday, he was predicting rain up until Friday … what a way to spread the gloom!
So The Neighbor and I were all set to go to cooking class tonight, I picked her up, we drove around the block, and I dropped her off. The shortest class ever! Turns out neither of us really felt up to it … and decided to take advantage of the time off and get some quiet time at home – oh yeah, because with 2 and 3-year-olds, there’s lots of that! ;) I called the store though, and they’re still going to give me the recipes, so I’m going to take a whack at making them this weekend. I’m excited about making the Ham Croquettas. Never made them before, but they’re pretty tasty, and the cooking classes’ recipes are usually very simple.
The Husband took Nicholas out to dinner tonight (since I wasn’t going to be home) and when I called to fill him in, he offered to bring me dinner from the diner. I immediately thought of a gyro. I haven’t had one of those in AGES. In my “single days,” every time my girlfriends and I would go to the diner (which in that cash poor time period was a lot), we always got gyros. Yum – can’t wait! I sent him a text message on how to order it. He remembered I like it a certain way a la When Harry Met Sally. No lettuce, sauteed tomatoes and onions instead of raw and extra Tzatiki sauce on the side (for mixing with ketchup for the fries). My mouth is already watering…
The Chocolate Macaroon Bars I made yesterday went over well at The Neighbors’ office and mine. I haven’t tried them yet, but will put up the recipe tomorrow night. They do look nice and cut very neatly, which is always a big plus with me.
Have you guys heard of Freecycle? You can join for free, and it’s set up by county. People send out messages when they’re looking for particular things, or have things to get rid of. Whatever you get or give is all free. Anyways … yes, this is food-related … I got a lot of great stuff last week from Freecycle. One woman had a whole bagful of Better Homes & Gardens magazines, another had a bunch of Taste of Home magazines, and a third had a whole box of Food & Wine magazines. Not bad, eh? You might want to check out the web site when you get a chance. You can view the messages for your county directly on the web site, or have them e-mailed to you. It’s also a great place to get rid of things … I “freecycled” our old dining room table, a rocking chair and a slide that Nicholas was too big for. But the most exciting “finds” so far have definitely the food magazines – can’t wait to start delving into them.

freecycle is great – I got a bunch of boxes for moving – which I freecycled forward. It was also great to use when getting rid of stuff before the move.
I loved that you noted the “neat cut” quality of the desert. I always think about that too for presentation purposes.
I love freecycle, too. We have given away various stuff the kids have grown out of. And we got a VCR when ours broke. It’s really nice.

I love gyros. There is actually a stand in the bar district that sells them every Friday and Saturday night. I will go down there just for the gyros.
