Weekend Dog Blogging #5/Weekend Wrap Up

October 17, 2005 · Narrative

Sorry for the lack of a post last night, but was dead tired when I came home and was trying to be productive around the house before The Husband and Nicholas came back.

Regular readers know that when The Husband and Nicholas are away for the weekend, I usually have dinner with my parents on Saturday night. True to routine, we ate together, but this time, instead of going out, we stayed in and cooked, with my sister and brother-in-law dropping by and joining us as well. I made a simple salad to start, making one of The Husband’s favorite dressings … just olive oil, juice of half a lemon, salt and pepper. Dinner was a new recipe, Creamy Shrimp with Pasta. It was pretty good, and I’d consider making it again. Nice and easy, it hits the table in under 30 minutes.

Tonight, The Neighbors came over for our Sunday night regular dinner. Nicholas and The Girlfriend hadn’t seen each other outside of school all week and were desperate to get together, despite many phone calls during the week. I swear, I think they might be worse than lovesick teenagers … no doubt the sign of things to come!

The Neighbor made dessert (cupcakes, the kids’ favorite, and Key Lime Dessert Bars). You know I’m rubbing off on her when she calls me to tell me they’re going to be a few minutes late because she has something in the oven!

We decided to keep things easy for dinner tonight. I made a simple salad to start, repeating The Husband’s favorite dressing from last night, since he missed it. Dinner was pizza, accompanied by Stuffed Garlic Bread (a recipe made by from Supper Club last month). The Stuffed Garlic Bread is delicious, and a definite repeater.

To show how organized I am for this week, I already made the office treats for both The Neighbors’ office and mine: Banana Chocolate Brunch Cake for her and Moist Caramel Apple Cake for mine, both new recipes.

Supper Club is this week (already!) and I’ve not only decided what I’m making, but have already bought the groceries for it. I’ve also already planned two dinners for this week and bought everything for that as well. Tomorrow night is 20 Minute Pasta with Eggs and Ham and Wednesday is Spanish Meatballs. Not bad, eh? It feels good to have a plan. The Husband has a Fire Department meeting tomorrow, so I picked something quick, Tuesday night is Supper Club, Wednesday the meatballs … I’m good ’till Thursday!

This weekend brings us to Weekend Dog Blogging #5, and we have a bunch of great new pics, so be sure to check them out below.

Kalyn’s Kitchen has jumped on the “weekend blogging event” bandwagon, this marking her first weekend of Herb Blogging, so check that out when you get a chance.

Below is my entry, a thriving Basil plant. Only problem is I made the mistake of putting this one in the backyard, where the dogs typically hang out, and one afternoon, caught Eli happily chomping away at it. After that, I pretty much relinquished control.

And while you’re checking out foodbloggers weekend event, make sure to stop by and see Clare over at Eat Stuff for her regular Weekend Cat Blogging event.

Will put my recipes up from this weekend on sidebar links tomorrow. Also tune in tomorrow to find out what I’m making for Supper Club. In the meantime, on with the show…

Sounds like you had a fantabulous weekend, and how great was Saturday’s weather when the clouds finally broke and we saw the sun! Great puppies this weekend, especially the girl and her statue dog-very funny!

Can’t wait to read those recipes! Any ideas on what to serve 4 kiddies – ages 1 – 5 for their Halloween costume party?? All I can come up with is hotdogs and cupcakes.
