I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Layers of soft flaky croissant dough, tender smoked salmon, light whipped cream, thinly sliced red and green onion slivers and dotted with capers… it was every bit as amazing as you’d imagine it would be. If you’re local, don’t sleep on this one. 😋

I think of her often … every Mother’s Day because we spent most of them together since her husband worked weekends … when I discover a new food adventure (we once did a day long donut crawl) … when I’m sharing a special time with my kids knowing that her then-11 year old is growing up without her. Before she passed, I always appreciated every day, but since then, even more so. You never know what the next day can bring, so relish in the sunshine, surprise rainstorms, making wishes over railroad tracks and all the wonderful randomness life can throw your way. Weekend Dog Blogging (WDB) #4

October 10, 2005 · Narrative

Lots of new adorable dogs joining us for Weekend Dog Blogging (WDB) #4, but first let’s talk food.

Had a pretty relaxing day today, and let me tell you, we all needed it! Contrary to the weatherman’s report, the rain managed to stay at bay today, thankfully. With it heavily raining non-stop for the past two days, I have a chill to my bones.

Couldn’t decide what to make for dinner tonight, but Betty Crocker’s Rotisserie Chicken Cookbook arrived in the mail yesterday and I decided to look there for inspiration. At only $1.40 from Amazon, it was quite the bargain. I ended up making Chicken Paprika from it and it was pretty tasty. Great comfort food served over egg noodles, though not a WOW for me; so although it was good, it won’t be repeated. If you’ve been reading my site for awhile, you know how I feel about repeating recipes … there are just so many out there to try, if it’s not a WOW, we just move on to the next one.

I also wanted to do some baking today, in part to, once again, get rid of some overly ripe bananas and secondly to get back in the cooking groove after this past week.

I’m forever on the hunt for the “perfect” banana bread, but fell back on Nigella’s recipe tonight. Out of all the banana bread recipes I’ve tried so far, I think this one is definitely my favorite. The rum-soaked raisins I’m sure have nothing to do with that! ;)

For The Neighbor to take to work tomorrow, I made Chocolate Macaroon Bars, a new recipe. Haven’t tried them yet, but they look tasty enough and were certainly easy to make.

Speaking of recipes, I’m going to start working on making links for the recipes I’ve tried or referred to, and will begin include a section for that on my sidebar, so keep an eye out for that. Just trying to make it a bit easier for you when you are looking for a recipe you may have read about here.

Although it is Weekend Dog Blogging #4, it is also Weekend Cat Blogging. Normally hosted by the lovely Clare at Eat Stuff, since she’s in the middle of a move, Farm Girl Fare has taken over the duties this weekend. And to that, I add my submission of Luke, usually an unwilling participant:

Luke

The Neighbor and I are taking a cooking class tomorrow night, so you’ll have to tune in to find out what we learned. With a Hispanic theme, I’m looking forward to it, and I know she could use a diversion after the past week.

So until then … without any further ado, I present to you, Weekend Dog Blogging #4. Thanks to all who participated — we have several newcomers this week, so be sure to check out their blogs. I hope I didn’t miss anyone this time, but if I did, drop me a line.

The dogs at Something So Clever are getting good at this model thing. Check out Letta and Piggy posing for the camera:

Betcha Harley and Peanut are glad to have their owner from Speculative Musing back. Check out her blog for pictures of the cuties she left behind from her vacation.

For a great chuckle, check out Bailey’s story from The Savory Notebook.

Dale from One Hot Stove getting quite the workout at Bear Mountain State Park.

Visit ReMARKable Palate (another first time WDBer) for even more pics of a very sleepy Stiva.

Sammy getting a Pumpkin Muffin treat from Taste Everything Once:

Check out One Whole Clove’s mascot here, our former Birthday Boy from last week:

Look at those gorgeous eyes on Samson from The Accidental Scientist:

The lovable curly-haired Gino and his girlfriend from The Flying Apple:

Hands down winner this week for my laugh-out-loud picture, check out the pup at The Moveable Feast! I don’t know how you got him to sit still like that!

Farm Girl Fare’s pooches have had a rough weekend of it, being forced to host all the cats from Weekend Cat Blogging. Betcha they’re glad THAT’S over! ;)

Spike enjoying the lovely Arizona heat from Culinary in the Desert:

Note the syncronized tongue action on these little pups from Live, Laugh, Love (another newcomer to WDB):

And, of course, our very own Eli, following the house rules of “no dogs on the furniture”:

Luke and Eli are my favorites :) Luke and his eyes..whoa! Don’t get in his way. He has the exact coloring of our first and now deceased cat Mickey. Exactly!
And Eli, berners are my favorite! How old is he? Or did I already ask you that? How did you pick that name?

Sylvie – no problem at all. It’s fun, now that I found an easier way to do it.

Luke – his eyes are actually more normal looking than in the picture. For some reason, I can edit people’s red eyes, but not dogs and cats. Eli is 3-1/2 years old, as is Bella, our other Berner, and our son. Insanity! Eli’s about 120 lbs — they can get up to 150 lbs. Awesome personaity.

Let the herb blogging begin! I still have oregano, parsley, thyme, mint, and rosemary that I could take photos of. (Unless it snows that is.)
