I mean, I might have a slight obsession but also m I mean, I might have a slight obsession but also my lips are never chapped, so there’s that. 😂 And this is only one of my refill stashes. When I was in middle school, I had literally THE WORST chapped lips ever. Like a complete red ring around my top and bottom lips. I don’t think that’s where my lip balm obsession started, but it certainly didn’t help. Jersey winters are no joke (or our hot summers), so don’t mind me while I just add to my collection. Welcome to the Funny Farm

October 9, 2005 · Narrative

Sent The Husband a message this morning (he had to work), telling him to call the Funny Farm and find out if there’s space, because I might as well go now. An exasperating morning. The Girlfriend came over first thing in the morning, because today was the funeral. Both dogs had long-standing grooming appointment. I had to get Nicholas and The Girlfriend and two 100+ pound uncooperative dogs down 30 steps from our front door to the car in the pouring rain all in one trip. Let me tell you how fun THAT was!

The worst part is that I got to the groomers late. It’s about 30 minutes away, and with the torrential downpours, and the effort to get everyone into the car, it couldn’t be helped. Well, apparently they have a policy that if you’re late for an appointment, you have to reschedule. First time I had seen/heard of this policy of theirs and I was beyond annoyed. We usually drop the dogs off in the morning, and then pick them up at the end of the day, so they do them whenever they do them. It’s not like I sit while they get groomed. Moreover, when I walked in, they were already working on two dogs, so they’re weren’t just sitting around waiting for me. I started to explain the situation of why I was late (and I wasn’t THAT late), and just stopped, not having the energy to argue, and they weren’t budging. What bothers me most is that we’re regular customers, two dogs, premium price because of their long hair. Yes, I was late, but in a service business, sometimes you have to cut clients a little slack. We will not be going back. Oh, so it gets better. The dogs are in the store, on their leashes, but loose. Someone opens the store’s front door, and you can guess what happens next. The dogs run into the parking lot. Still pouring rain, I’m holding The Girlfriend, trying to get Nicholas to stay put and now have to chase down the dogs. I could vent more, but since you probably come here to read about food, I’ll stop…. but ugh. Not a fun morning.

Had plans of making dinner tonight, but by the time I got home from errands, etc., it was nearly 3 and I was exhausted. It’s been a rough week, personally and professionally, and I think it finally caught up to me this afternoon. I actually layed down with Nicholas while he took his nap and promptly fell asleep myself. Woke up at 7 pm. Ooops. The Husband, being the wonderful man he is, made dinner: Roast Pork and Rice. I know, I’m lucky.

Finally two new shows are coming to FoodTV Network that don’t have Rachael Ray as the host! Warren Brown’s Sugar Rush premieres on 10/26. If you don’t know his story, he left a successful law career to pursue his passion of making desserts. Working on opening up his second bakery, with a cookbook comnig out soon, he’s just another example of why one should follow their passion.

Giada also has a new show, starting the same night, Behind the Scenes. She’s going to go behind the scenes of big events and show all the secrets of how it all comes together. I’m really looking forward to both shows.

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, I’m cooking. I have no idea what I’m making for dinner, but I know I’m making Chocolate Macaroon Bars and Banana Bread, since, once again, we have a plethora of overripe bananas. It has been raining heavily for two days straight now, and isn’t supposed to let up until Friday. If there’s a break in it tomorrow, then I’m heading to the Farmer’s Market in the morning, so maybe that will inspire dinner.

Don’t forget to send me an e-mail (with a jpeg picture) of your pups to be included in the round-up of Weekend Dog Blogging #4 (posted tomorrow night). The entries are starting to come in, and we have some cuties once again!

Until then…
