The Neighbor and I escaped sans kids for a little bit tonight to do some shopping. Since we spent the afternoon doing Halloween prep work all in our yard, while we were at the mall, we ran into Spencers to see if they had anything fun we could add to our display. All their Halloween decorations are 50% off now and thanks to The Neighbor’s keen eye, we scooped up a great witch’s cauldron that spews smoke for a mere $20 (greatly reduced from $80 because it was part of their window display). Anyways, I noticed they had fogger machines with a reduced price of $24 and I asked if that was already 50% off, or if it was another 50% off that. The gothic nurse manning the counter said that wasn’t included in their Halloween sale because they sell them year ’round. I said, “You do? What do people use them year ’round for?” The Neighbor guessed maybe for parties people throw. The gothic nurse looks at us and says, “Don’t you ever go to clubs?” Um no. Well, yes, we used to. But now, our level of excitement is reduced to finding jeans that fit right at JC Penney, anti-bacterial soap on sale at Bath & Body Works and 50% pjs for the kids waiting for us at home. Boy did we feel old!
For dinner tonight, I made Brazilian Ribs, which I’ve made before. Served over white rice with a little extra sauce, they are still just as yummy as ever. I don’t follow the recipe exactly. I don’t wait for all the liquid to disappear. I wait until about half of it goes, then I take the ribs out and brown them in a separate pan. Once they’re browned on both sides, I serve them over a plate of white rice and pour some of the extra sauce over them, topping the dish with freshly squeezed lime wedges and chopped cilantro. Could not be easier to make, and the ribs are really tender.
For breakfast tomorrow, we’re having Pumpkin French Toast, already macerating in the refrigerator. Figured it would be perfect for the morning before Halloween, and I doubled the batch to split with The Neighbors.
Regular readers know that on Sundays, The Neighbors usually come over here for dinner, but tomorrow, we’re going over THERE, with a promise of Stuffed Shells, possibly garlic bread and a homemade dessert. Can’t wait!
Tune in tomorrow for the Pumpkin French Toast recipe, Weekend Dog Blogging #7 and who knows what else. Until then…
Can’t wait for the French Toast recipe!
Your life is very exciting compared to mine!
I hope I’m not to late to join in on WDB #7. Gidget specifically requested to come play with the other pups this weekend.
