So Winter has finally arrived in the Northeast, dumping our first official good snowfall during the night. We got about 9 inches in our area. Guess Mother Nature took head of my new kitchen decoration:
Eli truly loves Winter most of all, and practically begs to be let outside as soon as he knows there’s snow there. It was up to his armpits while he was walking around. As soon as he gets out there, he throws himself on the ground, belly up, and wriggles around like a madman.
Tonight was our turn to take advantage of Friday Night Date Night, and Nicholas went over to The Girlfriend’s house for dinner and playtime. Since I’m still not feeling real well, we ended up getting take-out and just hanging out at home. With everyone home today (schools were closed and The Husband worked from home today), there wasn’t a lot of quiet in the house, so it was nice to get a break. I ended up getting fried oysters, which were very overdone, with a side of steamed red potatoes, which weren’t even cut open, seasoned or anything. Ugh. Had I had the energy, I would have been better off cooking.
If you’re a regular visitor here and like coming, hop on over to the 2nd Annual Food Blog Awards and have your voice heard. There are a lot of amazing food bloggers out there, both in terms of text, stunning photography, creative ideas and more, and this is a fantastic chance for us to be recognized. And hey, if you make your vote for Sweetnicks, thanks in advance!
Got the round-up from last night’s Supper Club, and from the looks of things, I missed a great feast! Most of the recipes are already up on my sidebar, the balance of them and pictures to follow sometime this weekend:

OK folks, all for tonight. Not sure what’s on tap for this weekend, but I’m trying to take it easy and kick this bug. All I know for sure is we’re visiting Santa tomorrow, The Neighbors are coming over for dinner Sunday (and I’ve already got the menu planned), and I’m sending out my cookies for my online cookie exchange. Aside from that, it’s anybody’s guess.
Lastly, don’t forget Weekend Dog Blogging #13 is upon us, so send in your cutest dog pics to my e-mail and tune in for the round-up on Sunday night. Got a feline on the prowl? Join in the fun at Weekend Cat Blogging, hosted by the lovely Clare of Eat Stuff. Weekend Herb Blogging hosted by Kalyn’s Kitchen is also in full swing. Submit your photos for her weekend event … got a green thumb and a bountiful herb supply? Discover a new herb? Feature an herb in your cooking this weekend? Then Weekend Herb Blogging is where you need to be. And lastly, introducing a new weekend blogging event, Weekend Indian Kitchen hosted by Mahanandi. This is a new weekend event that I’m really excited about, given how much we love Indian food. Every Monday, she’ll post the round-up of pictures from bloggers’ showing their Indian kitchen ingredient/utensil, tool or recipe. The item could be unique, common or anything in-between.
Until tomorrow…
Hope you’re feeling better. Being a teacher, I get exposed to all the bugs. This year I’ve already had the stomach flu once. I did get a flu shot so I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Thanks, Kalyn! Feeling a bit better today. Trying to rest a bit over the weekend, but I know the fresh air and moving around help too… Haven’t had the stomach flu yet – fingers crossed for both of us that we make it through the season!
