Had a really productive day today, spending the better part of the afternoon shoveling out our basement, which was l-o-n-g overdue. Not much going on in the kitchen today. Nicholas spent the afternoon with my parents and we arrived just in time for a pizza dinner there.
Tomorrow, for The Neighbors Dine Over Sunday, The Neighbor is going to brave the kitchen all on her own, tackling most of the main course. As long as she remembers to empty the oven of all the things she stores in it before she heats it up, we should be in good shape. ;)
Mail today brought the second issue of Rachael Ray’s new magazine, Everyday with Rachael Ray. As soon as I saw the cover, I was immediately taken with what a warm and cozy feeling it invoked; then, I read the captions and one of the first ones was “Get Cozy!” They certainly succeeded with their cover picture and coloring … and for those that like pink as much as I do, you’ll like this cover. Now I have to track down the vases she has pictured on the end table… Anyways, second issue into her new venture, and I’m still hooked. One of the features is about her recent wedding in Italy. Story goes that her new husband’s first word when he was a baby was “more” and hers was “vino” …. more wine, so it seemed only natural that they plan their wedding in Tuscany, celebrating where their favorite wine comes from. Great pictures of their intimate wedding, and the article even includes some of the recipes from the food they shared with their guests.
Upon their guests’ arrival, Rachael and John had personalized goodie bags for everyone. My sister and brother-in-law did something similar for their destination wedding in Maine in the Summer of 2004, and it’s a really nice personal touch for the guests. Another snippet in the magazine highlights Rachael’s favorite wines, ranging from $19 to $60, and there also an article featuring romantic dinners, and a piece touting 8 must-have cookbooks, and none are in my library yet! Quel surprise! The magazine is packed with hints, tips and recipes, so you might want to check it out.
As is par for the course, I have an overabundance of bananas, so tune in tomorrow to see what they get used for. Until then … don’t forget to send in your pics for Weekend Dog Blogging.
