Saturday Night’s Alright

by Cate on January 8, 2006

No exciting dinner report tonight. I had a hankering for spaghetti with red sauce, so that’s what I ended up making. Simple and easy, starting off with a spinach salad with dried cranberries, candied walnuts, cheese and a maple syrup vinaigrette dressing I make.

Nice relaxing day today … got a lot done, but managed to squeeze in some “me” time as well. Rough night last night, Nicholas has a raging ear infection, so we started the morning off bright and early at the doctor’s office. Poor thing – doc said it was closerthanthis to rupturing his eardrum. He’s doing better now though, thankfully.

OK, promised a new feature, called Saturday Night Sound Bites. I know, you love the cute play on words, yes? Just highlighting snippets from what other food bloggers are talking about RIGHT NOW … picking a few I like at random, giving you a little taste (pun fully intended) of what others have to say; you’ll just have to visit their website for the complete low-down. Kicking us off tonight:

Visit Monster Munching to find out what wrapped rice is all about, and the unusual way you take home your leftovers from the restaurants in her area. Read all about Peanut Butter and Purple Onions’ recent crush here, and how she was let down easy. With a site name like Peanut Butter and Purple Onions, how can you not want to check it out?

Check out what
spicy goodness is cooking up over at Sinfully Yours. It’s certainly got MY mouth watering! And the last one tonight comes from Chandra over at Lick the Spoon, putting into words and pictures why I love my kitchen time a little more since Nicholas arrived.

That’s all for tonight, folks. Don’t forget to send in your pup pictures, and tune in tomorrow to see what hits the table for The Neighbors Dine Over Sunday… Elvis will be IN the building. Until then… I’m leaving you with my contribution for Clare’s Weekend Cat Blogging. Callie had just finished doing one of the hardest jobs in the house … giving a 110 lb dog a tongue bath. Luckily when she does this, which is actually quite often, she only does his face and front paws, otherwise she’d be there for days!

Hey sweetnicks, thanks for including me in your snippets highlights!

I hope Nicholas will recover soon :)

I have a photo of Pepper to send for WDB. How do you want it/where?
I remember when T (my DD) had frequent raging ear infections–had tubes put in twice; eventually had to have tonsils and adenoids removed. That was the cure. None after that. Hope Nicholas is feeling well soon!

Sometimes, a basic craving like spaghetti with red sauce can be the most satisfying meal in the world. However, I want that salad. :o)

Hope all is well along the East Coast and Happy New Year!

Hi! This is my first time visiting, and I must say you have a wonderful site, very homey, and homey is very good! I love that pic of the cat/dog!

Anyway, just wanted to say hello. I’m planning on participating in WDB this weekend. I got started through Susan at farmgirlfare with WCB, and would like to showcase the “other half”!

Hope your weekend has been beautiful!

Hope Nicholas gets better soon. Ear infections are so hard on the kids.
I love the pic! My first cat was calico and her name was Callie also! Did you know that calico cats are almost always female?

Lin – no problem at all! I think it’s cool that they send your leftovers home wrapped in banana leaves. Definitely something we won’t be seeing here!

Cyndi – Nicholas definitely gets this from The Husband. I’ve gone 35 years with nary an ear infection. This was his 4th in the past year. He’s doing a bit better now though … thanks!

Seth – you hit the nail on the head. Comfort foods are the best! The salad was great. For the dressing, I just nuke maple syrup (about 1 cup or so) and then add in a few splashes of olive oil and balsamic vinegar with a little bit of salt and pepper. So easy and one of our favorites.

Alisha – thanks for visiting! Hope you stick around. :)

Patti – thanks. He’s doing a bit better. No, I didn’t know most calicos were female. I know, real original on the name, huh? I actually went in looking for an orange cat (never had one), but she was too beautiful to pass up.

abe/happy – not sure what the problem is – I received a bunch of others with no problem? No typo? If I get it, I’ll make sure to put it in…

Melissa – thanks! They DO grow up fast, don’t they? Part of the reason behind our new “slow down” regime this year. :)

Clare – you’re telling me! Eli’s a lucky dog!
