She was born in Paris and we’ve grown up with a healthy appreciation for French things … starting with their pastries and baguettes, but so much more. My daughter took her first trip to Paris last year and thoroughly enjoyed the croissants there and she deemed the ones at @chocolatinenj just as perfect. No surprise there since the owner is a French pastry chef! If you’re local and haven’t been, do make a point to stop in and visit. They’re open Wednesday through Sunday and have a wide selection of sweet and savory items and a few French retail selections as well. We’ve tried the macarons, the Croque Monsieur, the croissants, the tomato tarts, the baguette … basically we’re working our way through their display case in due time. Don’t miss this one - enjoy!

ARF/5-A-Day #5

February 1, 2006 · ARF/5-A-Day

Our fifth edition of ARF/5-A-Day and it’s chock a block full of fantastic inspiration.

I did a good job today, getting in roasted red potatoes with my lunch. I had dinner at my parents’ house and had a salad, a white bean soup stuffed with veggies and the main dish was tortellini with mushrooms and peas, so I had veggies coming from all over the place today. At least if I’m not cooking it, I’m still making a conscious effort in eating them, which is the whole point.

Onto the round-up…

Our first entry this week is Stir-Fried Multi Colored Noodles brimming with snow peas, green peas and other veggie goodness from Bucaio.

Stacey from Just Braise braves arenas outside of dessert with her Lentil Soup. With mushrooms, celery, carrots, potatoes, and lentils, she’s done good. And now that we have confirmed that cocoa has more antioxidant rich powers than even blueberries, I think it’s safe to include her Chocolate Fudge Coconut Cupcakes too. I mean, c’mon, check out how deliciously devine these things look!

Patti from Adventures in Food and Wine throws us a curve with a breakfast-for-dinner entry with her Meatless Frittata. It looks positively scrumptious and I love having breakfast for dinner, although The Husband, not so much.

I love the presentation that Faith from Blog Appetit did with her Not Quite Spring Rolls. With her step-by-step instructions, and even leftover suggestions, I can’t wait to find an occasion to make these.

Shammi from Food, In the Main, shares her delicious recipe for tomato chutney. We love tomato chutney!

Paula, our resident Cookbook Junkie, contributes “the best veggie she’s had all week.” Given today is only Tuesday, I’m not sure if that’s good or not, but I’m pretty sure it is. ;)

The Chocolate Lady from In Mol Araan presents That Rutabaga Thing, a dish combining russets and rutabagas.

Stephanie from Dispensing Happiness finally joins in the fun with a frozen strawberry smoothie – ’bout time! And just a heads up while I have your attention … since I’m away next week (although I will still be blogging), Stephanie has graciously agreed to host next week’s round-up of ARF/5-A-Day #6 for me.

Chef Michele brings us a host of delicious blueberry options that all look great. I have a stash of blueberries I froze over the summer … might be time to do some defrosting…

Bilbo from Smorgasbord in Japan shares her take on Potato Latkes. Although I’ve never made them, my Mom and I love them and our favorites are at an artisan fair we go to annually in Bethlehem, PA for Christmas. Great, now I have a craving…!

Kalyn from Kalyn’s Kitchen not only serves up a delicious looking Stuffed Peppers with Cabbage dish, but does it for a bargain price at that. Can’t wait to make this one – they look scrumptious!

Peanut Butter and Purple Onions contributes a Spicy Stir-Fry that’s chock full of veggies and is Weight Watchers friendly to boot. I love the Cornstarch Cat theory, since I know it can definitely be applied to my own pantry!

Alanna from A Veggie Venture throws a Spinach Curry into the mix, which I look forward to trying since the last recipe I tried was underwhelming.

Ashwini from Food for Thought offers up our second Berry Fruit Smoothie this round-up, managing to get THREE of the Top 20 ARFs into it. Wow! I love the subtlety of the Health section of the newspaper as a backdrop. :)

Not only has she not participated in ARF/5-A-Day before, this is her first event EVER, so let’s give Susan from Fat Free Vegan a big welcome as she brings us Cauliflower Mushroom Marranca with a side of Kale with Cashew Cream Sauce. Talk about raising the bar!

Jennifer from Weekly Dish and her Green Tomato, Garlic and Goat Cheese Frittata? I am SO there. Goat cheese is a favorite in this house, and this is our second Frittata in the round-up this week. Great minds are thinking alike.

Another ARF/5-A-Day newcomer, The Web Sorceress brings us the very ARF-friendly Red Beans and Rice with Sausage. Welcome!

Sailu from Sailu’s Food made a unique take on cauliflower with her Cauliflower Tomato Curry.

And lastly, our second birthday girl, Jennifer from Taste Everything Once highlights one of my favorite green vegetables, the delicious Broccolini.

Recap … 20 entries this week, including two frittatas, two smoothies and two cauliflower dishes … and LOTS to add to my to-try pile! Can’t wait to see what ARF/5-A-Day #6 brings!

Until tomorrow…
