So I finally managed to escape the house for a bit this morning. Now hold your excitement, because my trip included a stop to two banks and taking Nicholas to McDonalds so he could have a morning breakfast date with The Girlfriend. They had a blast, stopping long enough in between slide trips to shovel in bites of pancakes, sausage patties and glugs of chocolate milk. I did manage to squeeze in a five minute trip to the bookstore. This one isn’t big on getting in my favorite import cooking magazines, so I was promised another bookstore trip tomorrow, BUT that didn’t stop me from loading up this morning anyway.
Cooking Light has a new magazine (one of those $10-more-like-a-book-ones) out, and I grabbed that one, as well as Fine Cooking’s special issue Weekend Cooking that I talked about Thursday, so I definitely have, ahem, a few more magazines to keep me busy until tomorrow.
There’s a little gourmet Italian grocery store in this area that The Neighbor has mentioned a few times. Even though we’ve lived in this area for over four years now, and I have probably passed by this place a million times, I have, for some unknown reason, never ventured in. Besides being a grocery store, they also have gourmet Italian sandwiches, homemade dinners to go and all sorts of other goodies. I can tell this is going to be a dangerous little discovery! We stopped in for a late lunch today, and The Husband got a Breaded Chicken Cutlet Sandwich, Nicholas opted for a Caesar Salad, and I got one of their Italian Sandwich Specialties, a sandwich on Tomato Foccacia Bread, stuffed with fresh mozzarella, prosciutto, ham and fresh basil. I took a picture, but, unfortunately, it’s not very clear, so you’re going to have to use your imagination. ;) We also grabbed some Italian soda, little snack packs of Italian cookies with Nutella dipping sauce, a hunk of Parmesan cheese and, lastly, a container of Vodka Cream Sauce, which brings us to our Dinner Report… The Husband made me tortellini (whatta man!) and used the Vodka Cream Sauce. Perfect dinner for me. For him and Nicholas, he made Picadillo and Rice with Black Beans. I can’t wait to bring my Mom back to this place – with all the catering and platters they do, it’s going to be a great resource for us. I’ll definitely drag her there one day next week for lunch.
OK folks, all for tonight. Don’t forget to send me your best pup pictures to be included in tomorrow’s Weekend Dog Blogging. And as usual, Clare from Eat Stuff is doing her ongoing Weekend Cat Blogging Round-Up, so I’ll leave you with my submission, our Sugar. Until tomorrow…
P.S. Since Saturday is a big “movie night,” I’ll leave you with a little tidbit I just learned today … did you know that seven cups of light microwave popcorn (120 calories, 3 grams fat) is equivalent to one handful of Goldfish crackers (130 calories, 6 grams of fat)? Light popcorn is not only lower in fat, but can have four times as much filling fiber as most crackers. So munch away.
Does Sugar Fetch?
I know that stare, it says I WANT IT!
Beautiful cat. I wonder what she’s thinking.
Clare – Sugar is definitely ALL kitten. She was playing with my sister (see pink ribbon in corner?) … she is constantly racing around the house in the middle of the night, causing mischief. ;)
