Leaving the chilly (!) weather in New Jersey, we arrived in Sturbridge, MA in record time this afternoon, actually beating most of the traffic this time. We’re here for our annual road trip to the Brimfield Antique Show. It really is a lot more than just antiques, featuring everything from vintage table linens and dishes to complete dining room sets. Prices go anywhere from a buck to tens of thousands, and with over 5,000 dealers, there’s something for everyone, truly. And then there’s the food … some of New England’s finest … lobster rolls, lobster bisque, clams and more.
We usually spend our nights in our hotel room since the show is closed up just after 5 pm, catching up on our magazine reading (each of us bringing huge stacks to go through), watching TV and getting take-out. Traditionally, we get our first night’s dinner from Rom’s Restaurant, opting for their delicious Fishermans Platter. Tonight we bucked tradition and got food delivered from George’s Pizza… a wonderful Greek Salad, a veggie sub, Bananas Foster … mmmmm, fuel for tomorrow!
Now for my Top Chef fans out there, did you guys catch the reunion show last night? Total props go to Stephen for apologizing to Candice and realizing that he doesn’t need to educate everyone, all the time. I loved the outtakes, particularly the “it is what it is” piece – too funny. And speaking of love, hello Tom Colicchio. Check out the link for a picture of him with hair. I think I actually like him better bald, surprisingly enough. I love his quiet but powerful demeanor. I’m going to miss the show when it goes off, but Gordon Ramsay’s second season of Hell’s Kitchen is right around the corner (premieres June 12th). Can’t wait!
OK, all for tonight. Off to get a good night’s sleep for tomorrow’s fun! Until then…
A year ago today … I didn’t post because I was in Brimfield, sans laptop!
