… ‘cept not tonight because he worked late. Since Nicholas and I were on our own, I asked what he felt like for dinner and he piped up with “dinner from the chicken man,” otherwise known as Chinese food delivery. He and The Husband always get the fried chicken wings and shrimp fried rice, and he usually refers to Chinese take-out as “dinner from the chicken and rice man.” I guess we’re now even more casual – it’s the chicken man! He waited anxiously by the porch door, because tonight he got the chicken wings all to himself, no need to share. He swiped a bag of small pretzels from the kitchen and thrust it at the delivery guy when he came, explaining that it was quick to eat if he got hungry at the restaurant and didn’t have a lot of time. The man chuckled, but we spied him opening up the bag of pretzels on the way down the steps. Too funny.
Regular participants to my ARF/5-A-Day event might have noticed yesterday I mentioned a twist for next week … the recipes that you choose should come from another food bloggers’ site. To clarify, any ARF, fruit or vegetable rice will do; it doesn’t need to have been a previous ARF/5-A-Day submission. The possibilities are endless, and I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
OK folks, all for tonight. Off to spend some time with my munchkin. I hear we’re reading Scooby-Doo and watching Tom & Jerry. Tune in tomorrow for the next nod for my New (to Me) Blogger on the Block and my Rediscovering My Library segment. Until then…
Nicholasism for Today: “Mama, do wolves scare birds? Do butterflies talk?” The questions are getting harder. He watched an episode of Scooby Doo, and that’s where the wolf comes from, but the butterfly question, I’m not so sure. And I don’t have an answer. DO butterflies make noise?
A year ago today… Cookie Monster!
Butterflies “communicate” by using their antennae to find each other and possible food sources. You could tell Nicholas that one tap of an antenna is their version of “hi, I’m here, there you are”. They have tiny little hairs all over that do the same thing as the antennae.
No offense, but the Husband hardly ever cooks on Wednesdays – perhaps it is time for a new wednesday theme. Like, Whatever Wednesdays (leftovers and such) or Wine on Wednesday. Just a thought.
Emily – you are quite the font of information. I’ll tell Nicholas tonight — just gotta find a picture so I can explain what antennae are. Thanks much!
Erin – no offense taken. Unfortunately, lately my little events get overruled when he works late. ;) At least he cooks on other days. :)
