Weekend Dog Blogging #45

by Cate on July 31, 2006

Birthday celebrations continued today, and it’s not either of our birthdays yet. ;) Today we celebrated mine and Nicholas’ birthday at my parents’ house with them, my sister and brother-in-law. We haven’t had Indian food from our favorite restaurant in awhile, and since my parents’ live nearby, we got take-out from Begum Palace in Madison, and a local Chinese restaurant for the non-Indian food eaters. All our (and my!) favorites hit the table … Chicken Makhani, Bhel Puri, Pappadum, Aloo Tikki, Assorted Snacks, Meat Samosas and Basmati Rice. From the Chinese restaurant, Fried Chicken Wings, Dumplings, Cold Sesame Noodles with Peanut Sauce, General Tso’s Chicken, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Egg Foo Young, Dim Sum and more. Needless to say, I know what we’re eating tomorrow!

My mom is so cute. To keep Nicholas and my birthday celebrations separate, she set two tables. We ate dinner in the kitchen at the table set for my birthday. After dinner, we went to the dining room for dessert, where the table was set for Nicholas’ birthday. And, of course, two cakes! Apologies to bakeries out there, but so far, nobody beats the buttercream frosting that comes out of the Costco bakery. Unfortunately, the cakes are quite large (although still a bargain at $14.99!), so we don’t order them too often. I took advantage of the birthday celebrations and got my cake from there, colored with lots of pink, of course – isn’t it adorable? For Nicholas, I got him a Barney cake. They did a great job, and Nicholas was thrilled.

Alright, on with your Weekend Dog Blogging roundup. Until tomorrow …

A year ago today … more birthday celebrations.

I love Indian Food but it’s actually pretty hard to find a decent restaurant in a city like Chicago. But I am in class with a girl from India and she offered me to show how to cook some dishes at home. I will definitely take advantages of that.

Same with Chinese Food – even though there is China Town in the south part of the City, we are still talking about how great Chinese Food was in that small restaurant where DH was stationed.

Love your Mom’s Idea with the two seperate tables – those cakes look so good!

How can one go wrong with Indian AND Chinese food. Sounds like y’all had a feast. And thanks for hosting another edition of WDB.
