All About the Sandwiches

Remember a few weeks ago when I talked about Margaux Sky’s new (and first) cookbook, Beautiful Breads & Fabulous Fillings: The Best Sandwiches in America? My copy arrived earlier this week and the book is filled with photography as beautiful as the picture on the cover. Over 250 pages, there is drool-worthy food porn on every page, and given the photography is courtesy of Ron Manville, the chief culinary photographer for Johnson and Wales, and the team photographer for the ACF Culinary Olympic Team, this should come as no surprise. You will surely fall in love with sandwiches all over again … by way of Margaux’s creativity.

Chapters include Beautiful and Unique Brown and White Breads, The Best Sandwiches, Sandwich Loaves, Salads, Soups, Bountiful Breakfasts, Desserts and more. Just to whet your appetite, some recipes include Maple Merlot Bread, Real Apple Butter (which is on my short list), Beef Tenderloin with Coffee Liqueur Mushroom Sauce on French Bread, Lamb with Real Mint Sauce on Roasted Red Pepper-Brie-Mint Bread, and an amazing breakfast treat, Stuffed Strawberry, Granola, Cream Cheese and Brown Sugar English Muffins, which I am SO making this weekend. Each recipe has a short introduction before it, describing either the history of the food or how the recipe came to be, which is always one of my favorite parts of a cookbook. OK, enough talking about; if you haven’t purchased this one, go!

Nicholas and I were running a few errands before dinner tonight, and along the way, he piped up from the backseat of the car with, “Mama, sometimes people don’t eat dinner at home.” I’m sure this had NOTHING to do with the fact that we had just passed a Wendy’s, but needless to say that statement was quickly followed with a request for chicken nuggets.

You totally convinced me into buying that book. Hubby is a sandwich kind of guy for lunch and I am always on the lookout for new breads, fillings, condiments.
You have also enticed me into re-discovering my own cookbook library. Thank you!
