One word can sum up the entire day today … blech. No, make that BLECH. Without going into yucky details, since this IS primarily a food site, suffice it to say that Nicholas lost his lunch today. Four times. At school, at which point, I promptly picked him up. In the parking lot on the way to the car. In the car on the way home, and finally, just for good measure, at home. Poor thing, seems he got some sort of a stomach bug, but luckily is feeling better now. It was very cute though, the first couple of times, he was trying to catch it in his hand to avoid making a mess. Like I said … BLECH. I managed to get him to lie down and rest for a few hours this afternoon, but he gave up on that around dinner time and took to jumping off our retaining wall, and his swing, alternating between the two. Can’t keep a four-year-old down, that’s for sure, but at least he’s feeling better.
Another catering job for tomorrow. This time I went the chocolate route, making a tray with Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Chip Bars, Smores Fudge and Chocolate No Bake Cookies. That should take care of any chocolate cravings, yes? I’ll put the recipe (a new one) for the Chocolate Chip Bars up tomorrow night … super simple and quite tasty, a definite repeater.
Now … our spice racks. The other day, I grabbed for my container of chives, having run out of the fresh ones in our backyard, and noticed they looked a little light in color. I made a mental note that I really need to go through my spice collection. I did a quick pass when we had the I’ll Show You Mine, If You Show Me Yours #2 round-up, featuring spices, but I need to do a more thorough overhaul. My mom mentioned that the folks at McCormick have a handy little chart on their website here, giving some great tips on what to keep and what to toss. You might want to check it out, and then go check your own spice collection. I know I’ll be doing it this week. In the meantime, let’s just say that if you own any McCormick tins (except for black pepper), you’re in trouble. ;)
Until tomorrow…
A year ago today … a friend from Wisconsin and Nigella – a perfect combination
P.S. On the off chance that a reader is a literary agent, or knows one, can you drop me a line? Thanks much.
P.P.S. Don’t forget … I’ll Show You Mine, You Show Me Yours #5 is up next. This time, show us your “go to” dish. You can find the roundup for #4 here, along with a more detailed explanation of how to join in the fun.
Awww…poor baby! I’m glad to hear that Nicholas is feeling better. Hope your catering is a hit tomorrow.
I’d love to hire ya for a chocolate brunch…all those recipes sound great :)
That is so cool. My mother in law is really bad about keeping stuff, thinking that it is okay. I don’t know for sure, but she had some Ranch dressing in the fridge that expired 4 months ago, she said she eats it, and it’s fine. Ick!! Anyway, maybe I can show her this site and she will start tossing some stuff. hehe, I think she has some of the McCormick tins. Sorry Nicholas is sick. Hope he is better soon. Loved the Strawberry Bread, it has become an addiction at our house.
Another freaky blog coincidence. First this morning I saw that Randi just posted a Jell-O recipe that I looked at very closely last night and now your chives have turned, which just happened to me this weekend. I was going to use them for the Holiday Vegetable Dip
I posted on Monday but they were discolored and I tossed them. I just went through my spices last month but I missed this one.
BTW, my ARF/5-A-Day e-mail came back ‘Delayed’. I don’t know what that means but in case it doesn’t arrive in time, my permalink is:
