As I was driving down to go visit Mom tonight, the radio station was having a debate with their listeners about which is better … Ritz crackers or Saltines. You’d be surprised at how many people had strong opinions on the topic. I think it depends. As they said, you don’t go to your neighbor’s house for dinner and see a plate of Saltines out with the appetizers. And likewise, pregnant women around the country aren’t scarfing down handulfs of Ritz crackers. The Husband and Nicholas can polish off sleeves of Saltines without a second thought, but neither will go near Ritz crackers. I think each cracker has its place. What do you eat? Why? And with what? Discuss.
Until tomorrow…
A year ago today … mmm … delicious Cherry Coconut Bars.
P.S. Weekend Dog Blogging participants: Don’t forget that if you join in this weekend, your pup should be in their Halloween finery. Best picture gets a cookbook.
Ritz crackers are a staple when it comes to putting stuff on them. They also look better to the eye. I think the look of the cracker and color has pushed it to being the more popular cracker to put out. I happen to love Saltines and prefer Saltines over a Ritz cracker. The Neighbor Husband.
PS. Give the mom our get well wishes :)
I prefer Ritz but there are definitely certain things that requries saltines. I have no aversion to them. In fact, they are linked to a great childhood memory. If we happened to go to my grandparents’ house around 10 in the morning, they would always have a (small) glass of Coke with a couple of saltine-peanut butter sandwiches and watch The Price is Right. For them, Saltines were essential to their routine!
WHAT???? My Husband a Saltine lover. No way. Everyone knows Ritz are the better cracker. There’s a reason why pregnant women eat Saltines because they’re plain, and taste like cardboard. YUCK!
saltines v. ritz? i choose saltines every time. however i always have ak mak sesame crackers in my house. they go good with yogurt, cheese, hummus, soup. yum.
Saltines get my vote for eating plain (though did you ever hear about the contest of people trying to eat 6 saltine crackers (plain, no water allowed) in under a minute? Almost impossible to do). I like Ritz but only with stuff on them.
I don’t discriminate when it comes to my crackers. Saltines are yummy with peanut butter or dipped in soup or chili. I like my Ritz all by themselves.
I don’t like Saltines nor Ritz Cracker – I love the Savory Thin Multigrain Crackers from Trader Joe’s.
For me: Saltines with soup, Ritz with cheese!
What a great debate topic! My household is split on this one.I use ritz crackers to bread chicken and fish and the kids eat them right out of the sleeve. But I make cracker candy around the holidays and I have to have saltines on hand when I make homemeade chili or vegetable soup! I guess bottom line at my house is always have a box of both! I love reading you r blog by the way . Great ideas and really kid friendly! Thanks for a great blog!
