OK folks, this is going to be a quick post because I am beat. Beyond beat. We’re 0 for 3 this week … The Husband has a sprained knee, I went to the doctor today and have tonsillitis and Nicholas is still suffering through bronchitis. Never a dull moment in the Sweetnicks household, but ’tis the season. ;) Now onto food for a minute…
Although I am fully taking the time to enjoy Thanksgiving (no blithely skipping past holidays here!), this is the time of year where I start looking for gift giving ideas, particularly the small homemade food sort that I can give to neighbors, mailman, teachers, UPS guy, etc. I came across a recipe yesterday for Maple-Glazed Walnuts from Ellie Krieger of FoodTV Network. It took just seconds to whip up a batch last night and would look very cute in a small glass jar with a mini spoon attached, bedecked with festive ribbons. I’m looking for a nut recipe that’s more to the crunchy side, and this isn’t, but this one is perfect for serving over ice cream. For a simple gift idea, buy a set of four pretty ice cream dishes, a container of jimmies and make a batch of these and package it up nicely in a basket with a big festive napking. Easy, right?
Until tomorrow…
A year ago today … sigh … still vacation, and given the torrential downpours we’re having tonight, Bermuda is looking mighty fine.
Ellie’s Maple-Glazed Walnuts
Makes 2 cups
2 cups halved walnuts
1/3 cup real maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon salt
Preheat dry skillet over medium-high heat. Add ingredients and stir frequently until syrup is caramelized and nuts are toasted, about 3 minutes. Let cool and pack in a pretty jar or gift box.
These look good…if you find a good spiced nuts recipe, let us know! Hope y’all get to feeling better soon. Lots of water and rest does a body good! :-) I know, easier said than done.
Yikes! I know stuff is going around, I had a co-worker out sick last week, a cousin sick this week and went to get my haircut yesterday and my stylist had almost no voice. I’m starting to snifle which is making me very nervous. I hope you all feel better soon.
Walnuts and maple…simple but a great combination. And the recipe! As some food celeb says “How easy is that?” Thanks!
Those look so good, nice food photo!
Thank you! Coming from you, that’s quite the compliment. ;)
Cate,
Nurse the family back as the weekend is here :)
the husband (neighbor)
Claire – absolutely, share the recipe! Hoping to work on the resting thing this weekend… ;)
Robyn – it’s definitely the season for stuff floating around. Hopefully we’re just taking the bat early and it will be smooth sailing until Spring. :)
Elle – right?! Could NOT be simpler.
