I swear, I think I totally have the best kids e-v-e-r. And I know every mother says that, but that’s ok. ;) On Friday, Madeline had her six month check-up at the doctor, and as soon as Nicholas found out she was going to be getting four shots, he jumped up on the examining table and wouldn’t leave her side. I was so proud of him to want to help her like that, completely on his own. Such a good, kind-hearted kid.
When the doctor saw Madeline sitting up so ram-rod straight, she said that is the behavior of an 8-9 month old, not a six-month old who just learned how to sit up a week ago. It seems like Madeline learning to sit up was the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle for her, and over the last few days, she has taken great joy in sitting in her high chair, her stroller, a shopping cart, her bathtub and just playing on the floor.
The doctor mentioned what a happy baby she was, and asked if she was always like that, and I told her she was. Someone actually stopped me at the grocery store last week to comment on what a happy baby she is. She’s totally chill and laid back … my little Zen baby. Nicholas was very much the same way, very easygoing, but I think she might have him beat … by just the littlest teensiest bit.
We got the green light for her to start eating real food, and she has relished in every moment this weekend of exploring new textures, and feeding herself. Peas, carrots, yogurt and more, she has gobbled it up with great gusto. It seems like she is growing up so fast already, that it was just yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital, and now she’s scooting around on the floor and sitting with us at the dinner table like a big girl.
Tomorrow? Nicholas’ own check-up at the doctor, and Madeline gets to play the supporting role this time.
Such cuties you have! Those stories about Nicholas make me wish I had an older brother…younger ones just don’t quite “protect” like that! :-) Scooting at 6 months…she is ahead of the game! FUN! Makes me ready to be back in clinics.
Awe, that is so cute. I would’ve totally loved to have a brother like Nicholas when I was little, but I grew up as the only child.
So what does she like best until now? I wish I remembered the day when I first ate yoghurt… I must have been one happy baby :P
I think that the 2nd baby grows WAY faster than the first. Enjoy every moment with both of your beautiful children.
That is too sweet! What a great big brother.
They both sound like keepers to me. The photo of them together is precious.
I love your stories about the kids. I don’t have any of my own yet, so I just cross my fingers that they’ll be happy & healthy. What are your secrets?! :)
Claire – growing up, I always wanted an older brother and a twin. I had neither. So at least now I can live vicariously through Nicholas. ;)
Lore – strawberry & vanilla yogurt, hands down. She makes this grunting noise in between bites to let us know we’re not shoveling it in fast enough.
Pamela – I totally agree. I think that her seeing Nick walking and running around makes her that more eager to get to the next step. He walked at 10 months. My money is on 8 months with her.
Sarah – :)
Maria – definite keepers. Thank you!
Sharon – thanks! Glad you enjoy them – don’t want to bore anyone! No real secrets, but I’m a big believer in choosing my battles. Was actually talking to the doctor about this today at Nick’s appointment. An example, I told him in the Spring that I promised I would no longer nag him about how he kept his room. It was his room to do as he wished, as long as a) his mess didn’t infringe upon the common areas, b) food was kept out and c) he took care of his clothes. Believe it or not, ever since then, his room has been much cleaner.
SOOO CUTE!!!! (pinching cheeks!)
Ahhhh – they are so sweet! I’m glad you got one of the happy ones :) Makes life much easier, doesn’t it?
