This weekend we were housebound. Actually, we have only left the house twice since Wednesday, both times for doctor’s appointments. Madeline has been fighting bronchitis and a double ear infection, my poor little monkey. I hate when the kids are sick, even more so because her spunky, feisty personality is nearly gone. She’s fallen asleep on the couch twice, something in nearly two years, she has never done before, and she clearly doesn’t feel well. Although there was a glimmer of her today, I’m hoping tomorrow brings more of her back. We miss our little crazy monkey!
The stains on Madeline’s shirt below? For once, not food. That’s representative of when she won the medicinal war.
Unfortunately because of seriously swollen glands and discomfort, she hasn’t really been eating, a bite here and there, at best. Even a snowman cupcake only got a lick or two.
Poor Nick said today that he is glad he goes to school tomorrow because he wants to escape her crying. He’s also frustrated because she goes through bits of time where she doesn’t want him to touch her, pick her up or even look at her. He doesn’t understand how that could be so. “But I’m her brother! I’m just trying to make her feel better!” I tried to explain that sometimes when you’re sick, you just want your mom, but to no avail. Believe me, I’d love his help because she’s been velcro’d to me since Thursday. Luckily that phase passed a bit after this morning, and they were hanging out tonight. We will *all* be glad when she’s back to her old self, but I’m sure no one more than her.

Poor baby! I’m in the ER this month and had a 4 year-old come in at 1:30 am b/c he had woken up crying b/c his ears hurt! I feel so bad for kids when they have ear infections because those are the WORST! I got one last year…and they really hurt. Glad to hear that Madeline is starting to perk up…hope she is back to normal SOON!!!
I love the medicinal war picture. Really cute.
Awww, poor girl, I hope she is on the mend quickly. nick is so sweet for wanting to help her feel better.
Also, that dog is the sweetest looking dog.
Hope she’s feeling better soon! She’s lucky to have such a sweet brother, too!
I’m so sorry to hear this! i used to get bronchitis all the time as a kid and it sucked. I hope Maddie feels better soon.
It’s adorable that Nick wants to help his sister that much. Great kid.
Poor baby! Hope she’s feeling better soon!
We went through the same thing with Paige last week. She wasn’t herself at all — none of that wonderful personality. And she wanted nothing to do with Will, who only wanted to help her feel better. It’s so hard on everyone when they get sick like this. I hope she is back to her old self very, very soon.
Poor Madie. What a huge dog. Is he yours? What kind of dog is that?
I’m late getting here. Our office has been closed because of the weather, so I know she’s better now.
I too can appreciate the medicinal struggle with a squirmy sick 2 year old – except with mine it was lovely H1N1 that led to ear infections. The wonderful thing is about kids – they bounce back so fast… :-) mothers, on the other hand, need a day or two to recover!
