What do you get when you cross the new Barbie movie with a few girly girls, pink cake, tiaras, and construction paper decorations?
A really fun afternoon!
When I received the opportunity for Madeline and her friends to preview the new movie, “Barbie: The Princess and The Popstar,” and check out the new dolls, Tori and Keira, I knew it would be the perfect time to have a little afternoon princess-themed tea party. When planning everything, I kept it super simple, so the focus was on fun.
We broke out stacks of construction paper and made big flowers, streamers, and pinwheels, which was an inexpensive and fun way to decorate for the party. The refreshments included tea sandwiches (Nutella, strawberry cream cheese, and cucumbers and cream cheese), a pink sheet cake, chocolate covered Oreos, and juice.
As for the movie? It was cute, and the girls seriously sat transfixed throughout the entire thing. And for a bunch of four-year-olds to sit still for over an hour, well, you know that’s a success in and of itself. The storyline is about Princess Tori, who dreams of swapping her life for that of her favorite popstar, Keira. And, of course, Keira would like nothing more than to become a princess. True to form, once that happens, they realize that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. The movie was bright, colorful, and downright sparkly and the music was fun and upbeat. If you’re looking for gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season (ack!), the movie and accompanying dolls could be the perfect thing.
After the movie, the girls colored Barbie coloring pages and went back to feasting on the pink sugary goodness on the table. All in all, a fun way to kick back and relax with friends.

Watching a new movie release at home with friends and light refreshments is a great and inexpensive way to entertain. The kids and I continued the movie-watching theme and had family movie night, with pizza and Joyful Noise. Perfection.
Tomorrow? We celebrate tacos!
Tuesday? A belated Weekend Photos in Review.
Wednesday? A book review.
Thursday? A new recipe that is kid-approved and perfect for a busy weeknight.

I have no Barbie memories… I wasn’t allowed to have one :-( “Santa” brought me the Bionic Woman doll – ever seen that??? GI Joe with long hair…
I used to be a BIG fan of barbie movies when I was little even though I never really played with the dolls. So fun. I love how pretty-in-pink the party was!

Those girls are so cute in their tiara’s.
I remember getting one of the fancy-fancy holiday Barbies one year as a child. Wow – she was gorgeous :) Love seeing my girl creating all kinds of dramas with her Barbies!

My favorite Barbie moment was when I married Beach Barbie with my brothers Mr. T doll. They lived happily ever after in the dream house (aka, old shoe box!)
My favorite Barbie moment ever was when Barbie and The Rockers first came out. A friend gave me that Barbie for a gift for no reason- it wasn’t a birthday or anything special, she just gave it to me. It cemented our friendship through the end of third grade anyway. I loved that Barbie, and while I had five or six other ones, nothing got played with like Rocker Barbie. Her hair was awesome, her pink leggings were awesome, and this doll even came with a cassette tape of Barbie and The Rockers music. I played that to death.
i loved barbie when i was a kid. i have great memories of sitting around with my friends and playing barbies. thanks for the chance!
