Madeline and I were on our own Friday evening and most of Saturday, which gave us the opportunity to have a lot of one-on-one time. She was a girl of few requests… Chocolate Chip Pancakes for dinner Friday night and manicures on Saturday.
We spent the morning donating stuffed animals, shoes, and toiletries to victims of Hurricane Sandy, and she was quite the trooper deciding amongst some of her favorite animals to give to those who needed them much more. Between her and Nick, we carted off three giant bag fulls!
The picture doesn’t do her nail polish choice justice. They are quite the bright shade of orange, which are only slightly outdone by her current-favorite swirly colorful leggings. This little one just oozes personality from every pore.
A girlfriend came over and joined Madeline and I for a little late night sushi and a reprise of Katy Perry’s Part of Me movie. Loved it just as much as the first time we saw it.
Darn you, Dunkin Donuts, for bringing back the Holiday Star (cream filled) donut. And early too! It is a total Achilles Heel, but I allowed myself only one for the season, so I’m done.
I love when my kids’ teachers love them like I do.
A local bakery is making these cupcakes, and the profits are going to benefit Hurricane Sandy victims and to restore the shore. As if we needed another reason to have a cupcake, we did our part nonetheless.
While Madeline was waiting for Nick to come home last night, and The Ex to pick them up, she asked for toast. Completely out of the blue.
“Do you know what toast is?”
No, but I want it.
“Ok, I’ll make some. It’s bread warmed up with butter on it.”
Mmmm, I looooove butter.

Caramel Apple Dip joined our dinner table tonight. I love that so many of the little mini chocolate chips look like hearts. (Recipe here, if you haven’t made it, delicious stuff)
Also made Engagement Chicken, another tried and true (recipe here). Love the irony of a heart splatter appearing on the roasting pan. I love finding spontaneous hearts any time, as you well know, but on an Engagement Chicken pan? Even better.
