She was born in Paris and we’ve grown up with a healthy appreciation for French things … starting with their pastries and baguettes, but so much more. My daughter took her first trip to Paris last year and thoroughly enjoyed the croissants there and she deemed the ones at @chocolatinenj just as perfect. No surprise there since the owner is a French pastry chef! If you’re local and haven’t been, do make a point to stop in and visit. They’re open Wednesday through Sunday and have a wide selection of sweet and savory items and a few French retail selections as well. We’ve tried the macarons, the Croque Monsieur, the croissants, the tomato tarts, the baguette … basically we’re working our way through their display case in due time. Don’t miss this one - enjoy!

If you haven’t heard of board parties, it’s when every guest makes a different type of food board and brings it - so much fun noshing ensues! Review: Yummy Yogurt {Boonton, NJ}

March 4, 2013 · Narrative

You have ever one of those perfect days that are perfect because they’re just so ordinary?

Like, everyone in your family is getting along and there is no fighting, whining, or bickering?

And you managed to hit that unique balance of pure laziness with a little productivity thrown in for good measure?

And everything just … worked. And at the end of the day, you got to reflect on just how wonderful life is. And how wonderful your family is.

That was yesterday.

Nick had a commitment for four hours during the day that we ended up skipping, which meant that we pretty much unexpectedly had the day to ourselves, and to do as we wish. Which doesn’t happen often enough. We had a lazy morning, did a few errands, and just basically hung out together.

Perfection.

And as it wasn’t 17 degrees with a crazy wind chill factor, it seemed like the perfect day to check out a new-to-us frozen yogurt place.

Untitled

I swear it feels like these places are popping up everywhere. Likely because they are.

Untitled

Yummy Yogurt just opened in November, and we found out about them through Groupon, where they recently ran a half-off special (and if you’re local, the Groupon is still available).

Which is, like, my favorite kind of special.

Untitled

Located right on Main Street in downtown Boonton, it’s easy to find, and on-street parking is plentiful (although on a weekend during warm weather, it will be much more of a challenge). A big, bright, happy, colorful space, this spot has the most amount of seating that I’ve seen at any yogurt place, followed by Red Mango. Most frozen yogurt places typically don’t have more than a handful of seats available. Yummy Yogurt has banquet-style bench seating along one long wall, and a few spinning (regular) chairs. In the center of the storefront, they have these slightly odd pod-shaped chairs. Because of how low they are to the ground, I think they’re perfect for kids.

Untitled

Untitled

At .49/ounce, they are right in line with most of their competitors; there is no punch card or rewards card available.

Untitled

When it came to flavors, they have all the usual suspects, except vanilla, oddly enough, although since they rotate flavors, I’m sure it will be there soon. A few of the flavors are some we haven’t seen elsewhere – brownie fudge batter anyone? There is no calorie count listed on the machines or nearby. The yogurt dispensers here are quite a bit lower to the ground than other places, which was perfect for Madeline, because she could actually reach them.

Untitled

Now, the toppings. They have a pretty wide assortment available, both in dispensers along the wall and in a little toppings bar. The dispensers along the wall make it much more sanitary than a grab-and-go toppings bar, but then you can’t control how much of the toppings come out. If you want just a little of something, it’s not happening from the wall dispensers. There were some selections that we haven’t seen available elsewhere (conversation hearts, for example, marshmallows, and mochi), and this is the first place we’ve seen that has four kinds of boba available (strawberry, kiwi, passion fruit, and mango), which was pretty awesome since we love us some boba.

Untitled

The restrooms were huge, clean, and cheerily painted.

Untitled

I wouldn’t make a special trip to go to Yummy Yogurt (as we sometimes do for Red Mango), but if we’re in the neighborhood, I wouldn’t hesitate to go. If you are in the area, downtown Boonton is a cute little strip that can keep you busy for an afternoon. There are quite a few little restaurants, a few antique shops, a bakery, and a (small) farmer’s market on Saturday mornings.

Hungry for more froyo reviews?
The last froyo place we tried, Taro, is worth it for the Toasted Marshmallow flavor alone.
The kids love Let’s Yo! because they have iPads on the tables for them to use.
Strawberry Fields in Morristown is also in the same area as Taro, but Taro is tops out of these two.
Red Mango is still our one-to-beat.
CUPS is good, if you can get past the loud club-like atmosphere.
We visit Yogurtland the most because it’s the closest to us.

Tomorrow? A new recipe with brown rice.
Wednesday? Eat.Live.Be. and a new recipe for Thai Turkey Burgers.
Thursday? What I gave up for Lent.
Friday? Sushi restaurant review.

I love that even the toppings are in a dispenser! You never who has “accidentally” dipped their fingers into the self serve bin thingies.

I like the concept of the dispenser, but not so much that you can’t control how much ends up in the cup. This place looks really cute and worth stopping if we happen to be in Boonton. :)

Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel flavored yogurt… sounds like it would be worth a try! Maddie’s my kind of girl, Reese’s Pieces are something I can’t seem to leave alone when I have them in the house! Looks like a fun place… I’d give it a try if I weren’t halfway across the country! :)

The toppings in the dispenser because it seems like it would be cleaner and more sanitary then having the topping open for all the kids to put their hands in.
