When the kids come back from a weekend at The Ex’s, there are always lots of stories. Some good. Some indifferent. And some I try really hard not to react to.
This past weekend, Madeline was telling me of a recent outing they had to the pool. Madeline was playing with her brother and a little girl came over and asked her if she wanted to play.
To which Madeline responded, “no thank you.”
The Ex’s wife told Madeline she should go play with her. To which Madeline very pointedly told me, “Nobody makes my decisions for me. I didn’t want to play with her, so I didn’t.”
Period, end of story.
And every time I get a little anxious about sending her off to a new school, on a bus, without her brother there, I will remember this.
For as much as I want to keep her little, she is fiercely independent and has a mind of her own. She is growing up, and through every little turn, I become more and more proud of her.
And nobody makes her decisions for her.
*And yes, I did say “The Ex’s wife.” I could write volumes about it all, but I’m sure you understand, I can’t. The little girl above tried to reassure Madeline by saying “Don’t worry, your Mom will be near you while we play,” and let’s just say that did not help her case any.
*I will be off the rest of the week. Forgot I had this post scheduled, otherwise today would have been empty too. Found out that one of our dogs has cancer, and it’s been a rough week. Just don’t have the wherewithal to come here and string words together. Rosie and the kids need my energy more. Will be back next week.
Uggghhh…a frustrating/annoying situation I’m sure. But Maddie is so strong. Gotta love that about her!!
