I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Layers of soft flaky croissant dough, tender smoked salmon, light whipped cream, thinly sliced red and green onion slivers and dotted with capers… it was every bit as amazing as you’d imagine it would be. If you’re local, don’t sleep on this one. 😋

Today would have been my friend Cathy’s 53rd bir Today would have been my friend Cathy’s 53rd birthday. Unfortunately she’s not here to celebrate because she died suddenly at age 49. I think of her often … every Mother’s Day because we spent most of them together since her husband worked weekends … when I discover a new food adventure (we once did a day long donut crawl) … when I’m sharing a special time with my kids knowing that her then-11 year old is growing up without her. Before she passed, I always appreciated every day, but since then, even more so. You never know what the next day can bring, so relish in the sunshine, surprise rainstorms, making wishes over railroad tracks and all the wonderful randomness life can throw your way. Don’t waste a single second, say yes, live on the outskirts of your comfort zone, laugh often, tell people you love them, give eight second hugs, and squeeze every ounce of joy you can out of life. Do it for the people who can’t. ✨

People Magazine + Hershey’s

October 21, 2013 · Ad-Free, Narrative

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group®, PEOPLE Magazine & Hershey’s, but all my opinions are my own. #HersheysPeople #pmedia http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

This past weekend was one of those that struck the magic balance between productivity and relaxation. Something that happens once in a while, and that I’m working on creating more often. If we have a crazybusy weekend, I keep the next one as free and loose as possible. We all need that time to recharge, rest, and honestly, do nothing.

And even though my “do nothing” day still had a few loads of laundry getting done, homemade stuffed shells, a DIY Halloween decoration, cleaning the house, making chocolate covered Oreos, and other odds and ends, it just had this ease about it that made it downright perfect.

And those are exactly the moments when I steal some quiet time and catch up on People magazine. Years ago, I subscribed to over 70 magazines.  Over the past few years, I’ve let most of my subscriptions run out, and I pared my list down to five. FIVE. My favorite read at the end of every week? People magazine, which shows up in my mailbox on Fridays like clockwork. It’s the perfect little bit of escapism. Catching up on celebrity gossip, an easy recipe or two, the latest fashion trends, and stories on real life heroes.

The other thing we managed to do this weekend? We bought our Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters. Because despite not having a proper Halloween for the past two years (what with a hurricane last year and Snowtober the year before), and despite the ground swell of talk about a “storm looming” for this year’s Halloween, I am going to think positively that we will, in fact, actually get a Halloween this year.

UntitledWhen we stock up for trick-or-treaters, I go back and forth between what we should get. Some years I get candy that none of us like, so there is no temptation with the leftovers afterwards. And some years, I give in and get something we all like, so we enjoy whatever is leftover.

This year is that. A candy dish full of stuff we like. Hershey. And among the prized full size bars for some of our favoritest neighbors? My favorite kind of Hershey Kisses … the white chocolate/milk chocolate “hugs.”

My achilles heel.

If left unsupervised and on a day that lacks willpower, I can eat half the bag.

All the other times, I try to be a grown-up about it, and eat just a handful.

What Used to be My Favorite Spot
*three years ago, Nick (on the far right) looks so little there!

Madeline and I found ourselves at Target twice this weekend, and that also happens to be the place where you can find your People magazine *and* all your Hershey needs in one spot. And since you’re going, print this coupon (limited quantities available) and save $2 off. You can also find yourself a cotton candy Starbucks frappuccino hack, but that’s a story for another day.

What is your favorite way to relax (People magazine?) or candy to give out on Halloween?

Later tonight? Weekend photos in review!

*If you have leftover kisses from your own Halloween candy dishes next week, this is an excellent way to use them up.

Leftover Hershey Kisses… really? I don’t think they’d make it to Halloween if they were in my house!

My sister is a People addict — can’t live without it! We don’t really get trick-or-treaters where I am, but I definitely enjoy giving out/keeping-for-myself as many Reese’s Pieces and peanut butter cups as I can grab :)
