I popped into @chocolatinenj early on Mother’s Day and was rewarded with this deliciousness. Layers of soft flaky croissant dough, tender smoked salmon, light whipped cream, thinly sliced red and green onion slivers and dotted with capers… it was every bit as amazing as you’d imagine it would be. If you’re local, don’t sleep on this one. 😋

Crocs, Post-Its and Back-to-School Mania

August 8, 2011 · Narrative

Cookie Dough
Random picture for tomorrow’s post.  Mostly ’cause I hate to start a post without a cool pic.

“Can you believe the back-to-school stuff is in Target already?” I texted Mystic.

Yes, especially if people are buying it.  Are they? came the reply.

“Um, if by ‘people,’ you mean me, then yes.”

That was three weeks ago.  Even in the world of crazy retail sale schedules, I thought it a bit early for back-to-school sales, but of course I looked.  And picked up a few bargains.  The best sales are yet to come.

I have no problem admitting I’m a sucker for a new stash of school supplies.  For we use the stuff year ’round with crafting, journaling and general all ’round creative pursuits.

I love a fresh clean notebook, just waiting for the first stroke of pen.

Crayola crayons perfectly sharpened bearing that familiar crayon smell.

Bic medium blue ballpoint pens.

Glue sticks.

And Post-Its.

Man, does the O’Malley household love the Post-It line.

Post-It Holder
The folks at Post-It sent me some of their fun supplies, including this handy holder that goes on your refrigerator.  Methinks it’s far easier to have sticky notepaper stuck to the side of the fridge than rummaging around an overly full junk drawer for a scrap of paper.  Assuming, of course, that YOUR junk drawer looks like OUR junk drawer.  And I’m kinda hoping it does.

When it first arrived, I tore open the package and stuck the dispenser right on the fridge.

It promptly fell off.

I tried again, this time applying more force.

Down to the floor it went.

I saved it and the packaging on the counter, intent on writing a review, telling them just what I thought about it.

Then Mystic noticed it sitting on the counter and asked me what the problem was.

I explained.

“Did you read the directions?”

Um, no.

“Did you clean the side of the refrigerator?”

Um, no.  It’s already clean.

I swear I caught him rolling his eyes.  He grabbed the bottle of rubbing alcohol that may or may not have been handy from some other problem I encountered prior to that and asked me where I wanted the dispenser.

I pointed to the wide open space I had cleared.

He read the package.  He cleaned the surface.  And stuck the dispenser on.

I waited.

I was sure it was going to fall off again.

That was, um, about a week and a half ago.

The darn thing is still stuck to the fridge.

I really hate when he’s right.

Mostly because it means I was wrong.

Those Post-It peeps have done it again.  Fulfilled a need.  The next time you’re out taking advantage of those awesome back-to-school sales, get one of those handy dispensers for your fridge.

Just be sure to wipe it off first.

Sheesh.

And have you seen what those creative types over at Anthropologie do with Post-Its?  How cool is that?

Speaking of all things back-to-school, you might want to check out Crocs’ and their new kicks. They have all sorts of fun new shoes that don’t look like the Crocs you’re used to seeing. Just don’t tell my kids, since they’re a little Crocs-obsessed. I mean, after all, there are only SO MANY pairs of Crocs they need, right? RIGHT? And while you’re checking out the new styles, there is also a summer sweepstakes that you can enter for a trip for four to San Diego. My entry? Already in. Never been to Cali, after all, and happy to cross it off my list via a free trip. That is, unless YOU happen to win.

Thank you to Crocs for sponsoring this blog post. I was selected for this sponsorship by the Clever Girls Collective. Nobody told me what to say, because that totally wouldn’t be cool and is against all sorts of FCC regulations.

August 8, 2011 – Bonus Photos
Extra Large M&M Cookies

The beauty of leftovers night means there’s extra time for other fun stuff. Like baking. This recipe will be here tomorrow. And once my Mom forks over the recipe for that yummy chicken casserole, that will be coming this week too, so be sure and stay tuned.

Dogsitting
My parents dog, Beauregard, is having a sleepover here tonight. To make up for the uber-quietness that Eli has left behind. Never met a dog who had it so rough.

If you missed last Friday’s bonus post, you still have a few hours to comment and enter for the Hershey’s giveaway, so have at it, and good luck!

Awwww maaaaannn, now I have to wait an entire day for the cookie recipe! I vote that teasers be permanently banned from this site…especially when viewers (like me) have a major sweet tooth & the pictures look SOOO delicious! LOL!

Seriously, great post (gotta try that post-it contraption)…and can’t wait for that recipe!

I saw Halloween candy today – so ridiculous! And no, I didn’t buy any (but only b/c it was too hot to eat chocolate….)

Cath – that IS totally ridiculous. Michael’s has all their Halloween stuff out too. Even the kids know … one holiday at a time.

We did our back-to-school supply shopping at Target tonight! I was probably even more excited that my oldest needed his first binder! Pens, erasers, notebooks, loose-leaf paper… Oh, how I love new supplies!

Had to laugh as I was reading about the post-it thing on the fridge… I remember you telling me how it wasn’t sticking on the fridge when you tried it. Go figure… reading the directions actually works? lol!

We’ve done a little supply shopping, but the 5th grade teachers all have different lists. By the time letters come after august 15th telling us what teacher we have all the good stuff will be gone. We are first taking stock of what we have at home and then will figure out what basics we need and then specific stuff when we get teacher.

Can’t wait for recipes! Drooling for those cookies!

Schools around here started today and some even last week. Ugh, I had that kids start so early…but right now, it doesn’t really apply to me! I LOVED this time of year when I was little because I adored getting new school supplies. It excited me. Lisa Frank was the big thing when I was little.

Back to school supply shopping is definitely a favorite pasttime of mine. I share your adoration of new notebooks.

I own a pair of super cute crocs and they are far and above the most comfortable shoes I own!

The disbelief at school stuff would have been more appropriate last month. My friend’s school in KY starts tomorrow (1oth) and BB starts Kindergarten on the 17th. I had to get everything before we left for all of our travel in mid-July.

Was definitely appropriate Fourth of July weekend when I saw it, for sure. We don’t start until 9/6, and most schools haven’t (or just recently) published their school supply list. Just the way of the retail world, rushing every possible moment past us… :)
