I, for one, am glad that those silly Mayans don’t seem to know what they’re talking about.
At least when it comes to the ending of the world.
Because when I think of all I would miss…
My kiddos laughing!
Christmas Eve mass!
Santa on the fire truck!
A day trip to Bethlehem, PA!
Sleepovers!
Play dates and snowflake making!
Chocolate chip cookie making for favorite, past teachers! (hello #26acts)
And gosh, that’s just in the next few days.
With exactly 1,023 other things thrown into the mix between now and Tuesday.
Because, well, my “to do” list seriously overfloweth.
But I am not complaining one little bit. Because while I have a crap ton of things to do, my heart is pretty full. I do so love this time of year.
And Christmas lists! Oh these Christmas lists.
The big fat Toys ‘R Us catalog came sometime around the same time as Hurricane Sandy. And while it seems silly, I am super thankful for THAT. Because it gave my kids one thing to do during the eight-days-without-power and sleeping-at-mom’s-office debacle that Mother Nature threw in our path.
And, gosh, how seriously they took their list-making tasks. I mean, wouldn’t you? Madeline is so serious about it that she refuses to let Nick take dictation for her wants. She wrote everything out herself, while Nick very patiently spelled e-a-c-h a-n-d e-v-e-r-y w-o-r-d. Some days, he is prone for Sainthood.
Not every day, mind you. But most.
And then the lists got immediately given to Mimi, their grandmother. I had to beg for my own copy.
I mean, really.
Then they wrote a neater, more fine-tuned version when Sarah, Joanne, and Patsy visited for our Apres Thanksgiving Blogger Shutterfly Feast Dinner Shebang.
While they circled many things in the toy catalogs, when it came to putting pen to paper, their lists are really quite short. I’ll chalk it up to them knowing what they want. They both have very definite opinions on that.
The below was Madeline’s first list. And then the updated one follows it.
A look back…
Christmas List from last year
And the year before that (oh those chubby little fingers)
and then 2009
and 2008
and 2006
Tomorrow? There shall be pie! Of the savory kind.
I definitely miss the days of making a Christmas list. It was so cute watching them make theirs!

Those lists are great! We were in Bethlehem a few years ago, and we found a great coffee house across from our hotel called The Cosmic Cup. They were wonderful and we even bought beans and a mug to take home with us.
